Well, I haven't read the ending yet, but based on the spoilers in the comment section, it is disappointing. I was hoping for this manga to stay in the "slice of life" area, but it seems to turn into something else. I don't mind incest in manga, but for this particular manga, I just didn't want things to turn out that way. 🙁

Oh well, i'll still read it just to finish it.

Must agree, havent read more thn what has been scanlated but that kind of ending is not what i was expecting or hoping for. I so hoped iDaikichi and Koukis mom. But will need to read the ending to believe the bad turn, when it gets scanlated.

While ending might not be the most wanted/hoped/expected one, it's really not that bad.

I knew nothing good was to come from the time skip.
He didn't start taking care of her when she was already a teen, he raised her when she was still wetting the bed. It is really gross, especially given the realism of the parent-child relationship.

Didn't Woody Allen do the same thing? I'm not condoning it, just saying that it has happened before. We don't really know how Rin saw him...as a father, brother, etc. It could have been an older brother figure turns childhood crush turns legitimate love. It's really all in how she saw him.

Now, if she always saw him as her father, and decided to go after him, then it would be a little weird.

Well as i understood and remember correctly from reading she never saw him as her father (she said that her father was Daikichis grandfather) but as a caretaker/ guardian.

Rin didn't really saw Daikichi as a caretaker or a guardian, she simply saw him on someone she can really rely upon when it counts. Fiction wise, it's pretty common for girls to fall for guys that take care of them with such honesty.

Honestly there it was clues about "this ending" here and there before, but even with that this still came out as a "what the heck" surprise, that goes to show how the caretaker "normal" side of the manga was nicely written.

Well, I stopped reading shortly after the time skip, but I am curious about the ending based on these comments. So Rin and Diachiki end up together, is that right? Is it actual blood-related incest or does it turn out that grandpa wasn't Rin's actual father?

The reader finds out early-ish on that the male lead was not the father...

Anyways, the ending wasn't that great... the story telling was rushed, and it felt like the author took a mental dump. Maybe she just didn't know how to finish it correctly... or the political climate in Japan right now made it impossible to let the series become what it should have.

But the scratches in the record stared around the marriage proposal rejection, it was like the decision forced her into a spot she wasn't ready to go into.

For me the ending is not really that bad. Who would think it will end like this. All in all this manga is very good. It is my fav josei manga.

That was never an issue to begin with. The fact that his Grandfather wasn't her father either wasn't revealed until almost the end. It was in his will, but that wasn't revealed to us when Daikichi found it.

Obvious Spoilers in the following,

They're not blood related.
Granpa's not Rin's biological father.
From finding out Rin has feelings for Daikichi to the end end, there was another 2 year gap where Daikichi hoped Rin would've found someone else while he sort out his feelings.
Even the end of this part did not definitively put the two together.
The two didn't even kiss or hold each other in a romantic way through the entire series. At most they ever did was hold hands, but that's all because Rin either ran away or was still a kid.

There is no incest in this series.
People assumed too much, and hate without understanding. 🙄

The ending may not have been the greatest but it's open ended enough that it could go any way.
I have not read the supposed sequel/side stories so I don't know anything beyond the main series in terms of what happened.

Rin was actually contemplating incest when she was counting the degrees of separation between her and Daikichi. Just because the author conveniently makes them unrelated doesn't make Rin's initial feelings any less disturbing. But she's 16 and kids can get crazy ideas/crushes in their heads so that in itself is forgivable. But then Daikichi, the normal and likeable adult, gives in with a simple "I could never say no to you" which is doubly bad because he's fine with being romantically involved with someone he "claims as his daughter" and even with her at 16 and him at 40 he's alright with having a romantic relationship with her.

This was a simple slice-of-life but it feels like it tried to turn into a cheap Koi Kaze.

Well...in my opinion they didn't botch the ending; it wasn't perfect, but then again they rarely are, endings I mean.

Great manga up until chapter 30. Pretty good until the end of chapter 42. But the ending absolutely ruined it for me

For most of the manga it was a wonderful sweet tale of a rather awkward man raising a child by himself. but

to turn it into a love relationship is not only unbelievable (given all that went before) but downright creepy.

As a father myself, I can't believe that after throwing himself into the role of a parent so completely he could ever see her as anything but a daughter.

And if I do buy it, then that makes Daikichi (who was really a great guy for most of the manga) into a detestable person
