Teach me the wae~

For some reason I just can't bring myself to read these kind of stuff. Even those lighter ones called shounen ai or shoujo ai. I know I've read something worse than 2 boys/girls making out but I still can't read it lol. I keep avoiding this kind of genre even tho I see lots of it on the sites I'm using. Even so, I want to evolve, I wanna expand my knowledge and tastes and widen my perspective on this stuff. So please tell me how do you feel about reading these and what did you think about it when you first read it ? And also, what do you look for in tis kind of genre? The story? The artstyle? The making out? Tyvm. :>

Speaking as a fan of yaoi and Yuri

Er why force yourself to read a genre you don't care for? It's no big deal if it's not your thing as they are just a niche for a smaller crowd after all.

Hmm how do I say this, it's kinda hard to explain but I want to unlock my full potential?? Lol I think I am just extremely curious about this type of manga and I don't know how to get over my curiosity. Do I just read it head on?? I also want to understand more and know more seeing as not only my friends are into this but also a lot of other people too. I don't think I am forcing myself tho because I'm doing this out of my own free will. I just really want to know other peoples perspective on this kind of stuff maybe finding something interesting in the process.

I'm not confident enough to comment on shounen-ai and yaoi.
For GL you can probably jump into shoujo-ai fairly easily if you look through the higher rated works. Shoujo-ai in my experience has more focus on a characters intrapersonal issues and casual plots. Yuri probably gets more into the intimate side of GL.
Another suggestion would be adding in cross dressing or androgyny. That way you can read yaoi/yuri but still have a semblance of male-female relationships.

Tyvm, your insights are very helpful, as I only know a little about Yuri/shoujo ai, might find something to read in future.

You shouldn't force yourself to read BL/GL if you don't want to. There's no point in it if you don't enjoy it. Though you should explain why you're not comfortable with it: do you not like seeing same-sex pairings in romantic or sexual situations?

But if you want a light-hearted and wholesome one to start with, Dekoboko Sugar Days is good.

Again I'm not forcing myself to read yaoi/yuri xD I'm doing it out of my own free will. I guess I just want to discover something new since I only read the typical shōnen/shōjo/josei/seinen stuff. I think I'm uncomfortable with it because I'm not used seeing same sex people getting down on each other as I have never read yaoi/yuri before. Even so, I still wanna give it a try because I'm a sucker for a good artstyle lol and tbh most of the yaoi/yuri I see has better quality compared to some of the typical romance mangas.

P.s I really love the style of your suggestion, this is what I mean when I say yuri/yaoi has good
quality art👌

Sounds more like you're pretty conservative in your reading tastes. To put it simply, the sole reason yaoi/yuri material exists is to just be pure fetish fuel, that it is. The only thing that really sets it apart from traditional ecchi/smut material and straight-up hentai is the taboo of homosexuality with added drama and clothing kn majority of the time.

And, as far as getting immersed, there's two ways. There's the "soft" approach of reading gender-bender material like Tsuiteru Kanojo., Trans Venus, Blue Drop - Tenshi no Bokura, and Horoyoi Switch Kaseihu no Jouzu na Tabekata. Then, there's the "hard" approach of just going to town on sites like SadPanda and seeing just how degenerate your interests are. If you end up disliking the material, there's nothing else that can really be done and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just a fetish you don't care for.

Never really thought of it that way. I can't blame you tho for thinking that since I'm fussing over reading yaoi and yuri xD.

I searched sadpanda and apparently you need to make an acc. and wait a week, might try doing it tho cause I wanna see what kind of hentai they have to offer lol

Also just a little update ignore what I said, I read a yaoi called killing stalking and a yuri called Lily.....and My god I have seriously been missing out on these amazing reads I cannot believe I have taken this long to read this stuff smh. I LOVE dekoboko sugar days its so wholesome (๑♡⌓♡๑) and the artstyle is just 😘👌its kinda sad that it doesn't have a lot of chapters, nevertheless still a good manga.

I think I'm gonna binge read stuff on these genre till I get bored eventually✌️

Glad to hear you liked Dekoboko Sugar Days!

You might like OGURA Muku's works too if you like the cuter art syle, specifically:
Castle Mango
Furueru Yoru no Himitsugoto
One day, Suddenly, Like Love
Sentimental Garden Lover

Hey hey!! I just wanted to inform you that killing stalking doesn't actually go under the yaoi/BL category. Sorry to say this, but it's not even under romance. It falls under psychological and horror!! It's been mistaken as a BL quite a lot but the story is more about the character's trauma and mental state!! Please do try to remeber this!! Have a wonderful day/night and remember to eat enough and drink plenty of water!! Take care now!!

I've been reading BL since I was a kid, and surprisingly went straight for the heavy stuff with no qualms at all, even though now I much prefer softcore stuff without smut lol...It's different for everyone, though, and I understand how one might be a bit hesistant to touch certain genres (for me personally it's gender bender stories) so if you're really interested in broadening your manga-reading horizons, when you start small and easy, you may find yourself gradually enjoying it enough to seek out more on your own.

Here's some sweet and soft BL titles you might like! I've divided them into shounen ai and yaoi--in case you want some purely SFW stories to read, and I've put a "*" in front of the ones that are ongoing:

Shounen ai:
(Manga)
Futari no Lion
Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!!
Golden Days
Gunjou no Subete
Hidamari ga Kikoeru*
Itsuka Tomodachi ja Nakunaru to Shite mo
Kabe no Naka no Tenshi
Kieta Hatsukoi*
Koimonogatari*
Koi no Senryaku Management
Koi wa Kamen no Uchigawa ni
Musubenai Necktie
Online Game Nakama to Sashi Off shitara Shokuba no Oni Joushi ga Kita
Otoko Yamome mo Hana wa Saku
Ryuu no Otto: Boukoku no Kami
Sonna Me de Mitekure
Tashiro-kun, Kimi Tte Yatsu Wa*
Toritan
Toukaidou Hisame
Uchi no Ouji Irimasen ka
Wakabaryou de, Kimi to
Yamete kudasai, Mabushii desu.

(Manhua)
19 Days*
All of You
Boys Dormitory 303*
My Father-in-Law is My Wife*

Yaoi:
New York New York
Karasugaoka Don't Be Shy!
Reply
Business Like
Conveni-kun.
Love & Baseball
Hana Tokidoki Kuma
Hoshi wo Kazoeru Koto
Kikoenai Koe
Mienai Hoshi
Kimagure Goshujin to Oshikake Neko
Kitto Ouji-sama ga nante
Life: Senjou no Bokura
Nirameba Koi*
Old-Fashioned Cupcake*
See You Later, Mermaid
Soredemo, Yasashii Koi wo Suru

Also, I recommend you go through reading websites and look for oneshots, as they're easier to pick up and read (but the downside is most of the time they'll leave you wanting more :&quot😉

In my opinion, you'll start reading when you find a title that's right for you. With the story and characters of the characters that interest you the most. It will lead to an avalanche😉

When I started reading BL, I was thrown into deep water - yaoi, not shounen-ai. At first it was too much ... but with time I read it slowly and started treating it like fantasy or something? In fact, I also consider all romance novels to be total fiction, normal life is ... okay, I just separate manga from reality with a hard line xD Even if I have a lot of homo friends, I do not connect them with the world of manga and movies.

I like reading BL manga because I consider them a fiction different from the usual straight romances. They are more difficult to show than the relationship between a man and a woman ... a bit forbidden? Haha, but times are changing xD Anyway, I like the fact that apart from all possible problems that can be shown in the plot in hetero romance, yaoi/yuri also has a thread "whether family / friends / society" will accept us: two boys, two girls. Will the main character accept himself? I like it.

"what do you look for in tis kind of genre? The story? The artstyle? The making out?" I am looking for exactly the same what I am looking for in normal books / movies. Sometimes fantasy, sometimes a mafia, sometimes artistic beauty, sometimes sweet comedy, tragedy and so on😉

Back to the beginning. It's best when you define what genre you want to read, for example school sports club + comedy, add "shounen-ai" and look for pictures to choose your favorite artistic style. I suggest starting with some very delicate titles to slowly break through and enter the world of yaoi / yuri as you wish.

My suggestion at the beginning:
Hidamari ga Kikoeru
