Amazon strikes at yaoi/hentai on Kindle
Good for them. Yaoi and hentai are things that no one should really be reading, or making, to begin with, so it makes sense that a store should not sell them... just because, on principle, it's the right thing to do. More stores should do the same.
Hentai, yes, most hentai is disgusting and emphasizes abnormal fetishes. Boys' Love/Yaoi, no, yaoi is more like heterosexual erotica/ romances for women, just both partners happen to have a penis and a vaganus (hermaphroditic characters, but NOT a futanari.)
Although, it should be done properly... as in, if they say they're going to stop selling something because it's pornography, they should stop selling all pornography. Likewise, if they stop selling something because it glorifies homosexuality, they should stop selling all things that do that (that would mean other genres like yuri, shounen ai, etc.). What I mean is, if you're going to take a stand against something, do it for real, not just half-way.
Yaoi doesn't glorifie homosexuality, its female entertainment, its part of josei and shojo manga, and alternative for most so-called "hetero" romances. Gah. Being a BL artist is difficult with Western fans huh? (I am going to work for Libre Publishing-sama)
Please look at my posts above please.

I'm not once for hentai, i find it weird as hell.
But still, if someone likes it, its none of my business.
And i'm not going to hate on someone who likes it.
And for yaoi, NOOOO
like seriously sure some yaoi is like... porn 🙂
but others actually have good story lines like Viewfinder
You can consider mature shoujo porn too! they have sex, and theirs not much of a story line in them either.
What about echii? it has like porn too, it shows lots reveling stuff and even has sex in it too (sometimes)
so amazon may as well bann everything :I
they are just being homophobs cause they are not open minded and believe everyone should think like them.

🤣 ,
Well, to be fair, ecchi comes from "H" which comes from hentai... at least etymologically. The meaning is different in most English (and often Japanese) contexts though.
@Bunny: You could argue that BL in this context constitutes a grossly abnormal and fetishized feminine variation of male homosexuality, so I'm not sure that particular argument of yours really holds much water.
And futanari would amount to a type of hermaphrodite (you may want to look up the definition of the latter, as your usage is quite mistaken when you consider the bit about having both reproductive organs, which BL would never contain in any way other than metaphor).
Though you're right. It doesn't glorify homosexuality in any way other than being incredibly unrealistic. Bara exists for a reason, after all. Just a tip, though, don't call a publishing house "sama." I don't think they'll take you anymore seriously than one of those 14-year-old girls that runs around screaming "OMGnekopockyramen" or whatever.

Who cares about the definition? About whether it's porn or not?
Why should anybody try to dictate what we can and cannot read?
Personally, it's the first time I hear about kindle having any of those available,
but I'm against any type of censorship.
Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it should be banned.
It's not like anyone's forcing you to enjoy it, or even look at it.
Hentai, yes, most hentai is disgusting and emphasizes abnormal fetishes.
This is not true.
It just isn't.
Hentai is what we can call porn, but it does not always involve "disgusting fetishes" as you put it.
I've read plenty of hentai and it caters to a variety of audiences.
From vanilla to the extremes.
A fetish is basically anything that deviates from the acceptable norm,
so yaoi falls into the same category.
And really, just because you don't like it, or find it disgusting, doesn't mean everyone is the same.
Boys' Love/Yaoi, no, yaoi is more like heterosexual erotica/ romances for women, just both partners happen to have a penis and a vaganus (hermaphroditic characters, NOT futanari.)
What?...
Some yaoi titles do give that impression, but thank goodness, a lot of them aren't.
There are plenty of yaoi that depict more realistic relationships between two males.
Not cliche substitutes.
The term is not what it used to be. Especially not what you seem to think it is.
Yaoi doesn't glorifie homosexuality, its female entertainment, its part of josei and shojo manga, and alternative for most so-called "hetero" romances. Gah. Being a BL artist is difficult with Western fans huh? (I am going to work for Libre Publishing-sama)
Well, it kind of does.
Not that I think it's a bad thing, but it does.
It idealizes and glorifies the subject.
'Mainstream' yaoi is indeed directed towards women, but that's beside the point.
And since this thread involves adult topics, I'll move it to 18+
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

Well, yes, I suppose yes, but still, just the thought of schoolgirls and tentaclepusses and whatever else (yeah, there is stuff categorized as hentai that treats sex in a more realistic (in the sense that isn't abnormal with bestiality/lolicon/ mens' shotacon/shmans etc.) way like the amazing (LOL) Slut Girl.
There is BL that guys get pregnant, like some of HOSHINO Lily's work, or Tarako Kotobuki's Sex Pistols. I also remember that gay mens' (gei-komi) manga artists hate when American fans call their work "BL"/"yaoi" haha (FUJIMOTO Goh, HIROSEGAWA Susumu and TAGAME Gengoroh, I am looking at you dudes)
So yeah, if I didn't make myself clear, or you didn't understand, please reply to me. Haha, I don't bite.)
Who cares about the definition? About whether it's porn or not?
Why should anybody try to dictate what we can and cannot read?
I find the word "porn" offensive, since I feel it is making my work seem distasteful, I mean, my work, I try really hard on it...

One of my biggest issues with this whole thing is the complete hypocrisy. Amazon claims they're getting rid of all the porn on the Kindle. And yet, they've only gone after the BL and hentai manga. There are REAL porn books on there, women with boobs hanging out, not censored at all! ON THE COVER! And they have the utter nerve to delete manga, which are drawings! My other concern is it's MY choice what I want to read! I don't want real porn, but I'm not complaining that it's on Kindle because I don't have to buy and read it but if someone else wants to that's their business. It's not like the titles are loli or shota, U.S. publishers don't DO those because of the laws (which I find stupid because they're DRAWINGS, not REAL KIDS). What I wonder, and have said many times, is: where will it end? If they're removing these titles because people complained about them, what will they remove next? It's a slippery slope and a stupid move on Amazon's part.
Are you sure its due to stuff being porn, or just "nudity" and people not wanting their kids to see that stuff, I'm sure they'll take off the X-rated books and Playboy/ Penthouse stuff too...

I understand that, but still, it has no relation to actual gay men, its just different ideas for stories that haven't been used much. Yeah, I love work by Kano Miyamoto and Fumi Yoshinaga, but, no matter, thats not the point... sigh
I am so indirect...

Okay, lets learn the definition of "hentai", it means "perversion, and/or abnormal" in the kanji that is used (hentai can mean different things with different characters)
In Japan they call it "ero-manga", or "seijin", or "adult comics"/"adult-komi", and all of it is adult work. BL caters to a wide range of females with diffent tastes and ages, some preferring typical clean-shaven bishonen (works by MINAMI Haruka, KAWAI Touko, AMASAKI Yoshimi and the most), or macho seme/uke, both fairly masculine looking males (YES! I <3 YAMANE Ayano, KAZUMA Kodaka (well, not so much Kazuma Kodaka, but still!)
Some like classier Boys Love (works by ONO Natsume, NAKAMURA Asumiko, est em, Renaissance Yoshida etc.)
Semi-realistic portrayals of gay relationships: YOSHINAGA Fumi, YAMADA Yugi, MIYAMOTO Kano, and sometimes GOKURAKUIN Sakurako (but just a bit))
So, there is a lot of different styles.

I wasn't calling yaoi porn.
I was referencing hentai and basically saying it doesn't matter either way.
But if you take offense in your work being called porn, what about the hentai artists?
You call it disgusting, plain and simple.
The literal definition of yaoi is 'no climax, no point, no meaning'.
I very much doubt you feel this way towards yaoi, regardless to whom it caters.
Just so you know, I don't see porn to be an "offensive slur" when it comes to sex based material.
Even yaoi can be called 'porn for women'.
And what's wrong with that? Women want porn, too.
You take yourself way too seriously, girl.

Why is it wrong for BL authors like us to write BL? (yaoi is'not a proper term, nor is shonen-ai)
I find hentai to be more offensive...

That's your opinion.
But who are you?
Same as Lynaria's opinion is her opinion, but it's just an opinion.
Nobody's "opinion" should prevent people from reading whatever they like,
even if somebody might find it offensive.
If we eliminate one thing (for example, reading material), what prevents something else to be eliminated as well? Something you, oh opinionated one, might love dearly.
And honestly, I can't understand why you're so fixated on labels, Bunny-chan.
What the hell is BL then?
It's just a Japanese term, boarding on slang.
You keep going on about how you're a "writer" and whatnot.
But what happened to creative freedom?
Homosexuality is far from being accepted everywhere, and many people still view it as an offensive thing.
Why then, should you be allowed to spread your filth while hentai artists, for example, shouldn't?
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

.... okay, let me just say this, like other mangaka (yes, my work is being scanned and that ticks me off), I am not going to say who I am, that is my right to privacy.
Anyway, most ero-manga (as in Japan, it is called, hentai is actually an insult)
Calling my work "porn", or "gay porn"... it offends me deeply, I feel like my work is being raped of the beautiful artwork that it is. Yes, yaoi means exactly what you said, that is why us professionals hate to use that term, actually, most artists don't even use that term, even while writing doujinshi, since it is offensive...
Drawing BLis hard work, getting the sexual positions correctly takes time and practice... and I find it very enjoyable when I get my art to look nice.
ero-manga artists... to be honest, drawing ACTUAL adult manga is considered the lowest part of the manga industry. Many people who draw eromanga draw it so they can move up to draw better work that is not pornography. ANYONE can submit work to a ero-manga publisher, and most eromanga I have seen are just sex, tentacles etc. but some aren't. I dislike how women are treated in such work as well.
... and if anyone wants to know why I am offended by the term "porn" but I still love Ashika Sakura's Sensitive Pornograph, Ms. Gokurakuin told me how she REALLY came up with that title, but I am respecting her privacy so I am not going to say.

You cannot be for real!
Have you lost your mind?
What part of portraying a person jamming his penis
up another person's rectum/throat is not porn?
Especially when the whole genre is defined by the said act!
Don't go telling me rainbows and butterflies now. It says yaoi
because you get to see a guy sticking his hardened cock up another
guy's shit hole in the said work.
There is absolutely nothing about yaoi that is not porn.
Even the parts where someone is not stuffing his dong up
some guy's sphincter is just a prelude for the part that the
whole thing strives for and is as much porn as a girl walking
in slutty clothes and laughing in an annoying manner or licking
a semen stained face in a western porn clip.
