If they spoil shit with art or comments, it bugs me to no end. It's ignorant.
If they're funny, I might even stop to read. Otherwise I just ignore them. But seriously? 2.8% so far hates them? Pages like that have probably given you hours of reading-fun. Think, people, think.

It's free and people hate what's in the bundle? At least pick ignore them. If no one's translating the manga you're reading, then there's not gonna be scans duh.
I chose no opinion cuz I don't like them, hate them or ignore them(sometimes). Mostly they're just plain pictures or funny trolls so it's not a big deal, kinda like tv ads you know.

This.
I like them and just like with the rants/notes at the end, I read through them.
"But why?"
"Because I can."

It depends on whether they're "honest" or "clever" pages.
If it's an "honest" page (ie, one that's a straight forward page with text on it saying "we are recruiting...") I simply ignore it.
If it's a "clever" page (ie, when they take a page from a manga & "translate" the text as "[this] group is looking for...") then I find it quite annoying.
Also, I wonder how effective any of them actually are. Seems to me that anyone with the interest & ability to help out would choose to help out on their own, or by seeing the group's website/chatroom/etc. ....Not to mention the fact that the vast majority of people who read scanlations in the first place do it because they can't read japanese and/or have no access to the original manga, and thus couldn't translate or scan even if they wanted to.
It's rather like going up to people in line at the food bank & asking them to donate food. "Dude, if I had any food to donate, I wouldn't be in line begging for food!"

I don't really care one way or the other, but if you're going to advertise, that's the one place readers will see for sure.
I don't mind them.
I particularly like the ones where they take a panel out of a manga and make the images fit so well with the recruitment text. There are a couple out there that are actually really amusing to read.
Need to change them though. I personally find that when a scanlating group uses the same recruitment page, it becomes part of the group and I can imagine a lot of people skip it because they know it so well and it loses it's impact.
But yeah, I don't mind them being there.

Not exactly, scanlators read manga also. Some people do see recruitment pages and decide to join, I've done so myself. Or they could be completely new to scanlating and decide to start by just seeing a recruitment page. 🙂 And there's more to scanlating than just translating and scanning manga.
