Clannad "Anime"
Unfortunately I dropped Clannad after ~13 episodes. That was right after the Fuko arc finished, and they started with the Kotomi arc.
Despite the interesting characters, I just couldn't help but feeling that it dragged on unnecessarily hence why I dropped it.
I did watch the "recap"-episode though at the end of the second season. It was very condensed and I prefer it that way. 🤣

Heh. I still have four episode left to watch of the second season.
it hasn't been too bad a show thus far. I loved the first season. The second season is a bit of a departure; it has a lot less of my favorite characters (Kotomi, Kyou, Tomoyo) and isn't as light and fun as the first season. It has had some real emotional moments to it though, so even without what originally hooked me, I'm still going to finish it.

Let's put it like this... If someone who has never watched Anime before asked me for a recommendation, it would be Clannad (followed by Twelve Kingdoms).
The only people I know that didn't like this show are squealing superhero fanboys (i.e. Naruto / Batman / etc.)... These (odd) kind of people generally don't ask for (Anime) recommendations so no worries there.
If you can watch it till the end, you most likely loved it.
If you couldn't... Then it's simply not for you and should go back to fanservice or action packed content. (I understand not everyone has the patience for these kinds of shows).
In all my years of watching Anime and reading Manga my absolute favourites would be Clannad, 12 Kingdoms and Yotsuba... Maybe followed by a somewhat distant Hatchimitsu no Clover... Why even bother if there's no decent story?

errm no?
i hate fanservice and i dont read much action manga/anime
i kept watching until the 6th episode but then i dropped it
i didnt like how the characters kept bumping into eachother at the beginning and i didnt like the story in general
but i have to say,i love her dad
its just not my type of thing, and i didnt find it funny
there are other mangas/animes which people basically worship that i also didnt like(cough-fruitsbasket,skip beat,ichigo100%,suzuka etc etc-cough)
but that doesnt mean that i havent come across mangas worth reading
sorry for the (pointless) post i just wanted to point out that even if the manga/anime was highly rated theres no way everyone's going to like it(and im not talking about those who drop mangas for not containing any panty shots or romance)

And nothing wrong with it, I was only talking from personal experience and know better than put everyone into boxes... There is no simple 'one-size fists all' and opinions vary -- this should be a given. (I might have been a bit too explicit).
I wouldn't go so far as to worship... But I do like it, more than most of the others series I've seen.
Glad to see there are more people with a dislike of fanservice/action content ^.^ (was almost thinking I was one of the few)

She is a girl, you know . . . They tend to prefer shoujo and yaoi. Sorry to rub it in, but I do like my titles with fan-service and action as well (although I don't look for the latter). Still, unlike most guys, for me, romance has a special flavor, and it is a primary theme in my favorite manga (e.g., ef - a fairy tale of the two., Ichigo 100%, Mon Seul, and Shinshi na Meets Girl).
About Clannad, I could swear that Tomoya looks a lot different in the manga version than he does in the anime one. Weird. 😐
I would root for him to end up with either the long-heard twin, Tomoyo . . . Or the loli. Nagisa is, I don't know, dull, old, and . . . Sickly, or something. Plus, her hair is relatively short; not my type. 🤨

It's like game of thrones, the ending ruins everything good done till then.
Shit happens, thats life, and that's pretty much clannad working as intended, but to use the "it's all a dream" reset button just to crap out an unneeded happy ending ... no, just no.
It's the most insulting and lazy choice you can take as an author.
