New Poll - Time Zone

This week's poll was suggested by Afiaki. What time zone are you normally in? I just listed the most common offsets that are on the hour. If you're at a x:30 or x:45 offset, then you're in the "Other" category. If you can't be bothered to figure out what time zone you're in, we even got the "I don't know" option for you. If you're currently in daylight savings... too bad, figure it out.
You can submit poll ideas here https://www.mangaupdates.com/topic/kilkdnn/site-manga-poll-suggestions
Previous Poll Results:
Question: How do you protect your phone?
Choices:
- Both a case and a screen protector - votes: 1328 (55.7%)
- Only a case - votes: 629 (26.4%)
- Only a screen protector - votes: 84 (3.5%)
- Neither - votes: 244 (10.2%)
- I don't have a phone - votes: 99 (4.2%)
There were 2384 total votes. The poll ended: November 2nd, 2024 12:36pm PDT
Most phones are expensive, so gotta protect your property!

Of all the weeks to choose to do this poll, you chose one of the 2 worst ones out of the year lmao
I get that it makes some sense to ask about time zones during the ending of daylight saving time, but since the times are in UTC, everyone who lives in a place that observes DST will have a different answer depending on whether they answer the poll today or tomorrow.
I'm on EST, so right now I'm UTC -4, but in less than half a day I'll be UTC -5.

I was going to say ^. I wish we did away with DST altogether, and just had "Summer Hours" for things instead of changing the clock. In that sense, I'm always on Standard Time in my house anyway.
But yeah, it's bonkers to release this poll this weekend.

Actually even if the offset is different due to DST the question is about time zones.
If you do an image search for "time zones of the world", you'll get a map where you can check your time zone. If for example your time zone is UTC-5 and you're using DST then your offset is UTC-4 but your time zone is still UTC-5.
So yeah, you're all idiots. And the same goes to whoever came up with daylight saving time.

That's pretty damn rude. I'm not in favor of DST, I didn't choose this, but it's the reality I live in whether I want it or not.
If I want to know my time zone in UTC and I go to timeanddate.com, it says my region is currently in UTC -4. Saying "it's offset" doesn't change the reality of it being 8:25pm when I type this, which corresponds to UTC -4, and the poll doesn't have an option for "UTC -5/offset to UTC -4" or anything like that.
We all hate DST, but you don't have to make it a personal attack against everyone who's going to find it confusing because they're forced to live under it.

Calling everyone idiots is rude and unhelpful. But let's go through your claims anyway.
I'm in PDT time zone right now. PDT's offset UTC -7. That is to say, the offset for PDT is -7 from UTC. "UTC-7" is not my time zone, it is an offset. My time zone is PDT.
In a few hours, I will be in PST. PST's offset is UTC -8. Again, my time zone will not be UTC-8. My time zone will be PST, and PST's offset is UTC -8.
The offsets are not changing. Which time zone I'm in is changing, and different time zones have different offsets.
The poll question says it's about timezones [sic], but the answers are offsets, and there's no accounting for DST.
Here is a list of time zones and their associated offsets. Time zones and offsets are different things, represented in separate columns. Your claim that your offset and your time zone (represented by you as an offset) are independent is bananas. That's not how time zones work, and that's not how DST works.
The poll could have been phrased "What is the offset for the standard time where you live?" and we wouldn't have any of these problems.
Additionally, I searched for exactly the phrase you suggested, and this was one of the top results. This says my offset is +8. Which is wrong.

UTC-5 in north america and in Sout America would be different time zones due to differing DST rules... But i mean actually listing all time zones would be a bit ridiculous... I know that as a software developer... That way lies madness

I just went into rabbit hole of "Difference UTC and GMT", and boy oh boy the entire first page of Google has horrendous search results. Every single article even Stack Exchange is full of circular bs with a dash of <Well, ackchually...> when the question is simply "Is GMT+7 and UTC+7 the same thing?"
How hard is it to say "Yes," then add "but with slight difference in the definition." or something??

Is DTS that bad? My country never had it but isn't it just move everything by an hour one day and go back later? What's the beef with it?

I admit I never knew that the end of DST for many people is this weekend. Ours ended last week (always the last weekend of October), and I thought this was the same for everyone. I was very surprised to learn that there are even different days for the end (and also beginning) of DST. Interesting.

You had to run this poll in the month that daylight saving time ends...
My timezone is different today to what it was yesterday.
By the way, most of my web browsers report as UTC to websites due to my privacy settings as a FU to all the trackers trying to use this data to profile me.

Timezones in UTC shouldn't change, even with daylight savings. Ontario, Canada and the parts of the US below it are considered EST and that's always been UTC -5, even when daylight savings happens or doesn't. At least, that's been my experience.
