Let us talk about the Nintendo Wii - love and gripes

I have owned one since Black Friday and although I loved Twilight Princess, and have logged in 50-65 hours on Madden NFL 07; I don't want to put $40-$50 down on another Wii game until Super Paper Mario (4/9). Rayman Raving Rabbids lasted only a couple of days.
Virtual Console prices looked good to me until it became a fact, in my opinion, that these VC games are pick-up and play nostalgia and they cost way too much.
I don't have too much faith in the following games before Super Paper Mario ships but they might surprise me with great reviews: Sonic and the Secret Rings, SSX Blur, Driver: Parallel Lines, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition, Prince of Persia: Rival Swords
Any love and/or gripes about the Wii?

I didn't buy a wii and don't intend to (unless I suddenly win the lottery).
Its not the price that gets me but more the games I can find on. Of course I wish I could play Zelda, but other than that there aren't that many games that'd make take a wii. On the other hand if I can buy a PS3 I know that I'll find more than one game I'll enjoy, and for a long time to.
And what you're saying now isn't helping me... I can't get really into the wii. It felt like a console made for occasional gaming (party gaming). Andf for a serious gamer like me, it doesn't feel like it was made with serious gaming in mind...

The PS3's launch may have been horrible, but I think the Wii failed the console launch, why has it been like, 4 months and I still can't get a Wii!!! It is that I'm partly lazy, but I really shouldn't have to try. Hmph.
Anyway, I love the concept of the Wii but I must say, there are numerous things that worry me: (1) How many downloads can the Wii store? Being that you apparently can't export your downloads from the system, can the Wii really store numerous N64 games, the upcoming Sonic DVD software, the web browser... etc to satisfaction? (2) Can the Wii use encrypted wireless networks? (3) Are the $20+ component cables worth it?
Can't wait to blow the dust off the copy of Zelda I got for Christmas.

Right now, the PS3 is even more shit than the Wii. None of the releases so far are worth buying that is not already on or will be on the Xbox 360. May I ask what game(s) you're talking about?
@ SirGir
- You can download everything you want but you would need to dump the Virtual Console downloads on an SD card. They don't play from the SD card but you should be able to swap out the games as needed. The VC games can also supposedly be redownloaded so if you're running out of space, you can delete and download them again later for free. So far, every VC game has been downloaded for review purposes and it's still not full.
- No idea what you mean. WEP?
- Depends on a number of factors but it should be great for most people.

First, I have a made an oath to never buy a XBox product... and second I was refering to FFXIII, MGS4 and Tekken 6 those are the games I reaally want to play... (It still is more than just the Zelda game on wii)
But my gripe with Wii isn't the games, but the entire design of the console as a party tool. I don't like it at all...
Do you think there will be a price reduction on wii games when it hits a certain selling amount? Similar to playstaion platinum range?
In the paper today, tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page
Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart

By the time those are out by late 2007, if even at that, the Wii should have Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and probably a few hidden gems Nintendo has been hiding. Those are also strictly first party games and won't appear on any other system - guaranteed - while all the listed PS3 games are rumored to appear on Xbox 360.

Of course that will happen but Nintendo is known to put games on the Player's Choice tag very slowly. You're better off going to eBay or checking CheapAssGamer for deals.

Hostile, did you even understand my post you quoted?
I mean I said I AM NOT EVER BUYING ANYTHING RELATED TO XBOX.
so I don't even care if they ever get out on XBox or not...
and second:
I HATE PARTY GAMES!
So I don't care if they are not released anywhere else because it's - guaranteed - that I won't buy them anyway.
Ok I hope this time it was clear enough... But if you where expecting more pro wii posts maybe the title shouldn't have been "love and gripes".

Stealth is scary.
Thanks Hostile 🙂 I've obviously underestimated the usefulness of those SD cards. Oh, and yeah, you're correct in supposing my wireless internet uses WEP encryption. But, I guess all this doesn't really matter cause I'll be buying a Wii come hell or high-water.
Random Thought: 3rd party game developers seriously need like, a 1-year head-start on these new systems, because nobody can seem to understand how to program for these systems right off. I seem to remember someone at EA said something like the PS3 Madden was only using 20% of the PS3's resources...

I was thinking about buying a Wii. I was seriously considering it (I've never, ever, owned a console). Then--all the fanboy-ism started and I was totally turned off from the idea.

I obviously was not expecting all pro-Wii talk seeing as how I listed only gripes but I'm not pro-PS3 (right now) either. You would be retarded if you'd rather buy a extra few hundred dollars just for the reason you don't want to buy an Xbox, if in fact, those games did appear on the 360.
As for you hating party games... me too! So what? I didn't list one party game with the exception of Smash Brothers Brawl and that will supposedly have online multiplayer so it's not strictly a party game. If you're talking about the constant release of party games on the Wii, that's retarded too. You just don't buy games you don't like, easy as that. It's not like gamers should hold shitty games against a system, instead of talking about their great games.

I have a WEP key too and I'm online. Everything should work and if you have problems, call for help.
As for programming for new systems, you would hope they would do better. The graphics on the Wii should be on-par with the upper-tier GC games but it's not even that right now. Resident Evil 4 is supposedly as good as a game needs to get in the graphics department and Wii graphics shouldn't go downhill from there. Also, the Wii games right now aren't 100% responsive.

I remember that convo from somewhere... If you've been a PC gamer your whole life, you don't need a Wii right now. What did you want to play on it in the first place?

Well, Hostile, I'm sorry... I was actually fighting with my roommates and I had a bad week (Probably some of you noticed how my posts turned quite bitter latly. Sorry again I don't mean to annoy everybody just because I'm in a bad mood)
And When I read your post I got the impression that the message didn't go through. So it got on my nerves.
Ok and to answer correctly, I don't ever plan to buy an XBox, and I have my reasons. They might not be entirely logical but that's how stuborn I can get...
But on the other hand the Wii, is still prety atractive IMO. I don't like the party tool design, but as long as it proves that it can make serious games (like Zelda or Metroid), I'm willing to change my mind. And if they ever release the games I listed on Wii, I'll forget anything related to PS3 imediatly.
And as I said, I don't hold shitty games (as in party games lol) against the Wii. My problem was that I didn't find enough games that would attract me to buy one. On the other hand Sony have a long history of providing just the kind of games I like... So I'm not planning to buy either of the consoles anytime soon, but I'm placing more hope in the PS3 than I am in the Wii. But I wouldn't mind beeing positvely surprised y the wii.

Party games... Horrible Mario Party flash-backs!!! AUGH!
Is Smash Bros Brawl really a party game? I've always pegged it more of a fighting game (a seasoned wave-dasher will beat a button-masher any day)...
