Quote from MajorMarmot

What about those Hikimori guys who seclude themselves and read manga and watch anime all day? What about the famous Otaku Killer? Is a guy that smokes some greens once a week worst than those guys just because he uses DRUGS?

Hikikomori don't necessarily watch anime and read manga all day. 90% of them don't even use the internet, it doesn't only apply to the otaku demographic. (Sorry, for various reasons I ended up doing a reasearch project on hikikomori a few months ago. Don't ask.)

But yeah, manga is ultimately an escapist activity, just as reading a book, watching TV, or most forms of entertainment are. It's not focusing on life, it's removing yourself from it temporarily. There's nothing wrong with that unless it's taken to extremes.

NightSwan also said that she wanted to peg me, once, but I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or a threat...

Hell yeah. Because RL is boring as hell, and I don't need MORE school life mangas, RL is boring enough. That's why fantasy=more or less instant win.

I do occasionally when I'm stressing over a big project and need to let my brain cool down so I can think straight.

Definitely, even my mom is like, "I'm glad you have a hobby you enjoy but you can't hide in your manga."

....I can stop whenever I want...maybe, I think...wait, I need to read something right now...bye

Yes I do use Manga to escape reality. That's why I'm so into Anime and video games to begin with.I had a rough childhood and suffer from depression to this day.I'm not too caught up in it,but it brings me a certain comfort that I can not get anywhere else.People generally annoy me anyway,I'm a people hater.
