For anime, I think there are a lot of good endings out there. Ouran High School Academy, Excel Saga, Lucky Star etc. It's just that a lot of endings are simply tacked on so your left feeling screwed with. I got that feeling from Claymore...

For manga, since most manga people think of are those with long runs, I'm guessing the thing that kills endings for fans is the fact that they have high expectations for the ending. The longer the series, the more difficult it is to make the ending meaningful. Half the time all the best material's already been used up two or three volumes earlier and there's nothing left to leave an impression with.

It's impossible for everyone to ever be satisfied with an ending. Even the greatest of endings have people stating it to be the worst ending out there. It is impossible to please everyone, that's where the problem lies, which all goes back to personal preferences...

I think most would agree that shounen titles tend to have very open endings... Especially those that lead you on with the "romance" between two characters...>_>

I personally dislike most shoujo endings, especially the longer ones. You know, where the couple goes through all those crazy obstacles and somehow they end up 'happily ever after.' Pssh. O_O

Anyway, its a given that some animes have bad endings because they end before the manga reaches any conclusion.

Amen to that. I've read many shounen, and can safely say this commonly occurs. Rather fustrating.

But yeah, it's hard to say what is a good ending. Like it has been mentioned, preference. Most people tend not to like endings if it doesn't go the way they want it too. Especially with the longer series. I've found the longer series endings tend to have the most complaints 🤣 Everyone has formed their own ending and if it's not similar, they're not happy xD

Quoted for truth.
The reason is simply logic:

Longer series->more complex plot->more possible endings/pairings in the mind of the readers->more complaints in the end (1 ending vs all possible thought of by the readers)

At least it means that people are less standardized (mentally) than we think 😀

Ending things is a hard thing to do
you can not kill off the chars thats a nono
you can not have them go home and be a family wo/man
you can not have them reach nirvana and stop caring
and so on
open endings is the way to go
no1 gets upset
and its up to the readers to make up the rest of the story on their own
and you can allways go back to it in later parts of you life and continue the story

The most annoying endings are those that don't even finish the story. I don't mind endings that aren't what I pictured but at least give you some sort of closure. I can't stand endings that just seem to stop mid way or the author rushes to bring things to a climax, it just ends up ruining the whole manga. The beginning and the end are the most important parts of a story, if they're good the odd crappy arc can be forgiven.

I agree that endings are subject to opinion though. For example I loved the ending to Death Note and Code Geass but I have had many heated discussion with other who thought they were crap. I'm sure some ending I hated were held in high regard by others.

This debate limited to manga though, Stephen King tells a great story but can't wrap up a book well to save his life it seems. I also hated the last chapter of Harry Potter, I would have rather never known than suffer the disappointment I felt reading 'seven years later'. But I know others who feel the opposite. Everything is subject to personal opinion.

A crappy ending is a rushed one like to-love-ru a good ending is well there are quite a few H2 was great katsu was pretty nice too though the story isnt always a complete ending darn you adachi for making such a addicting storyline with hints of romance but never completely out there. Love hina was a lovable ending and so was chobit.

I say the ending really depends on how the story played through and how they reached the ending i mean ichigo 100% the ending was like quite awhile but was just great though i wished he had ended up elsewhere but thats my opinion read that thing like 3 times anyhow to complete grasp it myself. That brings me to the ending of animes where every freaking time it is practically a hook ending suppose where there might be more such as the great series ouran host club. BUT there was never more sadly. some endings are more clear such as gundam series and ive watched like every single one trust me lol that is practically my forte.

however back to the main point endings are there to usually just capture you to watch more thinking there might be the next season sadly i know there usually isnt. I do hate hook endings but sometimes they are just fine cant think of a example seeing as how its like 1 am here. I wish though that ya the writer thought more about how to completely end it instead of leaving a hook.
