The rating I give is based on how much I enjoyed reading the series. If I had fun reading it from the moment I read the first chapter to the time I finish the final (or most recent) chapter, it deserves a 10 in my book. This happens more often than not, hence why a bunch of series in my list have a 9-10 rating. A score of seven is average for me, with a rating of 5 or below just being a not-so-fun reading experience.

I remember there was a whole thread about ratings and having the ratings for 1 and 10 removed.
Here it is: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=4526

I don't rate manga at all~ (nor do the ratings really way my decision to read anything... the reviews do at times, but if I'm bored at work, I just search through genres I'm interested in and grab something long). But I certainly don't think that anyone should rate anything until they read at least a volume of it. Personally, I've actually bought something new, read the first chapter and been like 'holy crap this is terrible...' and then a few months later came across it again when I'm bored and read more and ended up buying volume 2.

I mean, you can always tell when someone's reviewing a manga based on chapter 1 because they make gross generalizations and assume that the rest of the manga will follow them. Case in point is Saijou no Meii. We only have 1 chapter out, but people instantly think that the main character is superman and that the series will be about him doing super things and never failing, when the root of the story is actually about how he helps other people be the best doctors they can be (how in the world could they possibly know that before chapter 2? No way~ Does it stop them from assuming the worst? Of course not).

I don't rate manga at all~~~~
Well, i've rated a few, but that was when i gave it a one, another a 7, and one ten. That's pretty much it. I don't usually feel the need to rate a manga when so many already rate it, and mine won't make much of a difference.

....Okay, i'm too lazy to do it.

I give 10's ONLY if I enjoyed the manga too much, not a little or a tiny bit. If I had a good time reading it, had good laughs or been on the edge-of-my-seat, then the manga deserves a 10, especially if it is memorable and re-readable.

It's a rare occurrence, out of the over 900 series' I read or have read I've only given two tens.

Crenshinibon hit it spot on, in my opinion. Everyone has different standards, different experience. I tend to be quite critical with my ratings. I award full tens to works that impress me on all levels, so there has to be a balance of exceptional art and writing, among other elements.

I am rather picky with the 10s.
If I like something a lot, I'll usually give it a 9,
since I could one day read something by far
superior and still would rank it the same, since there
is no 11 in the scale. :\
I rarely rate anything, but I'd give 10s
to stuff that keeps me reading for hours in one
go (reading the whole series)
and when it ends, I lose.

I usually only rate series I'm up-to-date on or I've completed. I usually have good choices, so the series I read usually get a 7, 8, or 9. I only give a 10 if the series gives me a good feeling when I'm done.

I so rarely give a manga a 10, I've only rated nine with a 10. So far I've only rated the manga I really like, so I only rate 10's. I'll only do that if I really liked the manga and it entertained me enough so that I can re-read it.

I rate a 10 quite often, in fact most mangas I read are 6+ because if its average I normally drop it and never actually record it. Its all about how bored I was at the time or what genre I was into. I'm fairly generous with ratings I suppose.

Well, I don't give many things 10, only about 16/400+ manga, but when I do, its not because its perfect. Its more like, "I LOVE THIS.", so I give it a 10. If it has something in it I don't like, then I lower the rating.
