Since the validly of the site came into question in the other thread, I'll just post it here since the other one is from December 2007.
I think CNN or the news even did a story that would be redistributed/rebroadcast to the local news. It was talking about how these kids would play the game in their spare time at school.
I've checked out www.freeflour.com that another person mentioned when I was looking up about www.freerice.com on Google on whether or not the site is "real". That site looks similar to www.freerice.com but I also wonder a bit. On my PC it gets in error after 10 tablespoons, although it worked on an iBook I used. But it asks for your e-mail address and that you have to check the box to receive notifications, although it says that the site won't sell your information.
But for the 'charity' click type sites. I also use to regularly go to the www.therainforestsite.com.
I guess even if the site doesn't help the hungry as much as it seems, at it's something to make people a bit smarter, even though the 'feel good' feeling from doing a good deed may be false. And since some days get several millions accounted for, it really should be weighted. Such a waste of resources of a person doing something as menial as counting something as small as rice (not as bad as counting sand). I guess it could be counted by the people that it's donating too (and hopefully there wouldn't be any hoarding or thieving while working...) since they might have less to do that day, or maybe not.
Quote from Diokhan
after the 50,000th grain or so (it was a slow day....), you can't help but memorize the answers, yet forget what each words meant the next day....
Well if one plays several days in a row, would improvements happen in a person's vocabulary?
