Domestic na Kanojo. It's a teacher/student relationship. I haven't read it since about chapter 50, but it might be what you're looking for.

Hmm, now that I think about it, I should catch up on it.

@Chongen : thanks for the clarification.
Then maybe Kimagure Orange Road ?
It is mostly episodic, light and happy, with a little magic, ecchi and slapstick. Technically the protagonists are all high school students, but again the main lead girl comes across as older/stronger/more mature than the male MC.

It's not for "grown-ups". It's for people who enjoy bad writing. The ending came out of nowhere and ruined the rest of the story. The author was trying to be "edgy" and failed horribly.

Grrrr... please tell me you don't bite 😛
While i do think this mangaka's storytelling is at best irregular and tends to go downhill in most of the works i've read, especially when his yakuza fetish kicks in, I wouldn't be so categorical as you. In my opinion he does a good (unique and often hilarious) job of picturing his characters inner conflicts and despairs, the awkwardness of some social situations.

Ciguatera is for grown-ups. Stuff like this happens all the time in the real world.

Well, it might be my naivety but I don't think that the statement that "it happens all the time in the real world" is quite correct. I do believe it happens but that is different from person to person. Usually there is some kind of problem in the relationship leading up to it though that might be my biased naivety kicking in. And being a grown-up doesn't really mean that cheating is either okay or, rather, common. Well as I said I'm naive in that sense and will probably always be leading to me being hurt but I don't mind being naive as I'm quite happy being naive. I'm happier this way than thinking everyone cheats, that's for sure.

I'm going to check it out!

That's the problem. People applying too much real world logic to these fictional stories. Yeah, it happens, but to solely focus on the possibility of it happening is not good. Just looking at the story, it was a terrible ending that came out of nowhere. It was completely out of character and did nothing, but ruin the rest of the story.

Naive people usually don't say they may be naive, so the good news is that you're probably not.
Now the bad news is this :

Adultery appears to be quite common, at the very least in western countries (and that's what I gathered on a personal basis).

Suspension of disbelief, where to draw the line ? Hats off if you can universally answer to that one...

Anyways thanks for the reminder about Ciguatera, I'll have to read it again, beacause I have no recollection of the ending you're talking about; in my evercrumbling memory they were together towards the end, thir breakup is not shown, and we only learn about it at their gathering a few years later, which is the conclusion of the series. 😲
