**THEY COLLECT THE STAMPS.

That would be my reason, anyways >_>**

lol a pity that a used stamp is worthless 🤣

it must be fresh off the mint(or whichever is the place that produces stamps), and in any case, very old or particularly rare (like special edition, limited ones etc)

Mint is worth more, but used is still fine. My grandmother collected stamps so I kow a good bit about 'em.

isn't that a federal offense or is just illigal if you open it?
If it maybe for the rush of breaking the law/ losing your job with out getting caught.
Perhaphs they like to imagine the people feel like they have alternative lives. That they're the person recieving a love letter/i miss you letter. Maybe the hoard things that might be unpleasent and are saving the mail recievers from sorrow. 😛

hmm...

Identity theft? It really does happen (not necesarily by the mailman). I've heard that some ppl do it so the real person won't know about his/her finances, e.g. Stealing jane doe's credit card no., buying through internet and sending it to the real jane's house (so it won't cause suspicion with the bank) then stealing the package and finally stealing the letters that the bank sends with the current things bought (lol i forgot its specific name) 😀

Another reason could be like kawaiiairbender said: to imagine that those mail letters are meant for you... Kinda like the movie in which Robin Williams starred where he works developing films/pictures and makes himself and even others believe that it were his... Real creepy
I don't kow the title of the movie in english but i think it was called in spanish "Retrato(s) de una Obsesión"

Hope this helps even a little 😉

Thank you guys for your help with my story! It went in a completely different direction than I thought it was going to thanks to your input, and I think it turned out OK.

If you shred your old mail, and stuff em in large canvas bags, seal em, et voila! Er, um, well, it could keep you warm like a blanket if it's flat, if it's cylindrical then you have a punching bag. Ahhh, recycling is great.

I want to see how my workshop goes first. I think I would be too embarrassed to post it, but we'll see.

Seriously? People do that? I guess if one were to analyze one's motive behind one'a action of mail theft. One would say that one have some what a troubling belief that mail theft would bring one closer to one's victims. Thus stealing mail makes one not so lonely.

I heard on the news, I think 2 years ago, there was this postal worker that was stealing the packages that were used to send Christmas presents during the holiday season. The person (I think it was a female, too) open the packages and kept the good stuff and then disposed of the other gifts secretly.

There was a person to reassure the public that it was an anomaly situation.

That would be One Hour Photo. (Ended up being on the tip of my tongue too, so I had to search it up. 😛 )

Huh?

Yeah, that Robbin Williams movie was creepy, and he is usually a funny guy.

In all honesty, I just love reading other people's letters because the context in which they're written tells a different story than what is just solely written. There always seems to be some code, some personal connotation to everything in a letter that it feels like you're being told a story without it being told to you explicitly-or anyone else for that matter. That letter was written for just one person, and it's strange to see a how different it feels as opposed to reading public writing... Which all means I'm a creeper. 🙂

mmm a good example is Newman fron Seinfeld.I believe in one episode he was mad at his boss at the post office because he didn't get a promotion so he just stop delivering the mail.
So there's revenge. Another reason could be laziness.
