I think you can tell my choice 😁

Hitler is just messed up, but recently I'm starting to be more disturbed by "lil Kim," at least Hitler is dead.

It's the Kim Jong-Il Show!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (e-cookie for who gets that reference)

I have to go with Comrade Stalin and Pol Pot for this one, along with Der Furor. Good thing that those evil sons of bitches are dead.

Lets see, some famous ones from ancient western history:
Caligula
Nero

More modern ones:
cantrememberthisass'sfirstname Mussolini
Adolf Hitler
Joseph Stalin
Mao Zedong
Pol Pot
Fidel Castro
Kim Jung Il
uhhh those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

A good dictator i guess... was Deng Xiaoping, I call him a dictator cuz of the whole Tiananmen Square incident in the 80s

Caligula and Nero are both emperors, not dictators.

The best dictator is definitely Julius Caesar. Because he's pretty Awesome. Sulla was pretty cool, too, but he just couldn't go the distance.

Caligula
Nero

Ahhh, yes... Nero and Caligula. I think those two rank in my top three favorite emperors, simply because they were absolutely INSANE. My other is Elagabalus, also for the sheer entertainment value reading of his rule brings...

But I doubt they could be considered dictators (despite the fact that thesaurus.com says that "dictator" is a synonym of "emperor"). Honestly, I don't know much about many dictators. Sure, I had World History in school, but we had no time to learn details...

So, I think I'm going to be unoriginal and choose Adolf Hitler, since he's the only one I know much about.

I don't mean the Roman term for dictator, I mean the term in common usage of today, tyrannical megolamanic and whatnot. How can you like Nero or Caligula? Caligula was delusional and had his HORSE become a senator. Nero tried to drown his mom by setting her out on a ship designed to sink, he only forgot that she knew how to swim.

If you want to be technical:
Dictator- elected by the romans in times of crisis his power superceded that of the 2 consuls. Dictators only existed in the Roman Republic

Emperor- comes from the latin word imperator which was the name of the rulers of the roman empire after the republic was overthrown. The first emperor, Octavian aka Augustus, made it seem as if senate had power again, but in reality the emperor still held all the power. At the time of the roman empire there were no dictators in Rome anymore.

It's not so much that I liked them as people (who actually has a dictator they seriously look up to?); they're just amusing to read about. They sound so out there that they seem to be made up, but the funny thing is that they aren't. It's like when you choose your favorite characters in a book. You might not want to meet them in person or be like them, but they might just be funny or amusing. That's how I see Nero and Caligula.

But if I were asked about who the best Roman emperor was, I think I'd be torn between Claudius and Augustus. (Then again, I don't have all of them memorized, so there could be others.)

I'd go for Augustus and the later ones including Trajan, Vespasian, Antoninus and Marcus Aurelius (Marcus Aurelius especially since he's in the movie gladiator 😛 ).

What I really want to know about dictators is how they turned out the way there are. Seriously what trauma/motive/whatever in their past caused them to become crazied megalomaniacs. Or was it only in their tenure in power did they become nutjobs?

There were/are so many it's hard to choose I would go with Hitler, Mengistu, Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin and Kim Jong. In this order.

How is it no one has mentioned Ghengis Khan? I mean the man conquered a better portion of Asia and Europe.
