I just think there is way too many people that abuse the 1 ratings just to lower the ratings of a series they don't like of have hardly read... I mean, yeah a lot of people give 10's and 9's to series they like and most of the people that don't like a series just don't rate it at all... but what is with giving a 1 to a series you have not read over chapter 2? what is the point? is like rating a movie for the title alone.

I think the amount of 10's and 9's should be limited to a % of the series in your lists... like only 10% of the series in your complete list can be rated with 9.1 and above... and only a 5% of the ones in your reading list can be rated with a 9.1 or more. (with a minimum of 5 as top scores or something).

I am not making a whole lot of sense so in resume:

Limit the amount of 1's to a % of the list they are, and a max of 3 if they are not in any list.
Limit the amount of 9/10 ratings an user can do to reflect a little better their judgment of what is Incredible good and what is JUST above average.

Then again people will just vote a lot of 2, instead of 1... but hopefully this will make them think a little before giving bad/good scores.

You can't stop it. This is just how voluntary surveys are. The results will still be the same even with the limit.

Now, if it was up to me personally, I would secretly ignore votes from people if the variance of their votes is far too high. Cheating, sure, but it's okay to cheat when you're dealing with idiots.

First of all, this idea is plain tyranny.
People are entitled to their own opinion and if they wanna be jerks about it and vote 1s and 10s without what you view as a justified reason, it's their right.
Not that I support it in any way, but I also don't support restricting people like this.

I'd also like to point out that the amounts of 10s and 1s don't hurt the ratings so much either.
If people like something - the votes show it.
If they don't - the votes also show it.

Besides, rating is subjective.

Honestly, I don't even look at the ratings on a manga before I read it. I really don't care about other people's opinions (sorry, but it's true). However, I do care about my own opinion, so I will share it.

I don't think that there should be any control on ratings. Each person puts down their own opinion, why should the site take that away? Are we supposed to use a bell graph when we put our own opinion down on a story? If we control two ratings, then why not all of them? Or, maybe we can just leave all of the responsibility of rating to one person? That whole rating thing is kind of a hassle, after all.

*I do rate manga, once I finish them, or while reading, if the story is ongoing. If I stopped reading after two or three chapters, then I won't rate it, so I really don't give out many ratings below a 5. Other than that, I give a fairly wide range of ratings.

I don't think restricting people is going to work. Some people actually use the system fairly too. It's not fair to restrict everyone because some people can't use the system properly.

just let it go, if you listen to the ratings of manga and you miss out on something it's your own fault to begin with, just read what you want ignore ratings, and if you really like ratings then you should know to begin with through common logic that there are people who probably rate it low without even reading it at all.

Well I just think is unfair given the "Sort by rating" option exist... I mean many good series have ratings of 8, just because 20 people decided giving it a 1 was the right call, because that many 1's have a huge effect on the ratings and doesn't seem to matter the 400 hundredth that gave it 9 or 10s.

My point is that Ratings are not that useful because when you search the series on top, is mainly because NOT many jerks have given it a 1... probably because they have yet to find it... there is also the problem of people wanting their favorite series on top and purposely giving the ones on top of their favorite a 1...

PS: What is wrong with Tyranny? is a fact that most people don't know what is good for them... just look at democrazy and how after a few months a LOT of people regret their choice... Masses decide stuff while poorly informed or just because of peer pressure... that is why third world countries can't get their act together.

Not saying Tyranny is good... just that free choice while poorly informed can be just as bad or worse, because a Tyrant is for life and you can get used to that... Democrazy has a new idiot messing the country every 4 years... yeah you can get a NICE find every now and then... but is really worth it?

Fuck... there is also the problem of power.... since power corrupts with time... might as well hold elections every 6 months with a chance of perpetual reelection for those that can get shit done without destroying the economy.

Anyway... it was a suggestion, to solve a little problem... I can always ignore the general % of the ratings and look at the big picture (details of how many people voted for 1/10), but that doesn't change the fact that series in this site are ranked by ratings.

I rarely look at the ratings because they are so subjective. Often ratings are an indicator of popularity rather than quality. Instead I read the comments. There is usually enough variety of opinion to help me a judgment on whether a series would be of interest to me.

So I don't feel that a change in the rating system is needed, but maybe if there is a change, it might be to consider that a rating can't be given without a comment. That gives readers the opportunity to see what if any reasoning is behind a rating.

Same as scarletrhodelia, i always read the comments.
It's a lot more usefull than the rating for judgeging a serie you haven't start to read yet.
The rating can help in his way. You can do 10 = 9 to 7 i think, people generally put 10 if they finish the manga and have a good feeling about it. I put generally 10 too, i try to give less 10 but it's hard =)
for me a manga i can read to the end worth at least a 6. if you liked it, a 7-8 is a good rating, 9 if it's one of those rare manga you like so much that you can re-read it fully. and 10 if it's a manga coming from heaven =)
Yeah i know, my lists have many 10 and 9, but i m too lazy to change my rate from my whole list =)
