Actually I find this sort of thing really odd. In Ireland if your born or have lived here for a 5 or so years you are just considered by most Irish. I don't see why Americans who have African roots like to be called African-American when their family has lived in America for generations, to me they are just Americans. Do any other countries make this distinction? I can't think of any European countries where it is prevalent. 😕

I think it's just people trying to be PC. I use the term 'Black' as a term to describe all people of African descent. It would be too difficult to describe them as 'Bantu' 'Malian' 'Swahili' or what have you. It's analogous to describing American Indian (Native Americans) by tribal names. If you know what it is that they are, it's easy, but oftentimes, they don't even know.
