so it seems that one of microsofts big announcements at E3 was that ffxiii is going to also be released for the xbox. personally im really excited by this because i dont have a ps3 and ff is my favorite game series. though i do feel kinda sorry for sony

I'm still getting the PS3 version. I currently have neither a PS3 nor an Xbox360 and in the past I've always been happy with Sony's systems. I also have an irrational hared of Microsoft.

Based on the game library, the 360 in every way beats the PS3 at the moment. As far as I see, Metal Gear Solid 4 and FFXIII was its saving grace... FFXIII being on the 360 is a huge blow to the PS3 in my opinion. If FF goes 360, I have very little reason to buy such an overpriced system...

They did this most likely to broaden their range of customers, but seeing as Xbox seems to have the upper hand right now, this was a very bad move for PS3. Plus they broke the PS tradition, which makes me a bit sad, but eh.

It's a smart move really. They'll reach more American fans by putting it on Microsoft's console, and as long as they still release it on PS3 they haven't forsaken the native Japanese fans.

Believe me that Sony had no say in this matter. It was clearly a financial decision between Microsoft and SquareEnix. Damn you Microsoft and your evil plan to take over the world...

As for the "PS tradition" you speak of, as the series started on Nintendo systems, the change isn't really unprecedented. I for one remember hating the fact that I had to go and buy a Playstation to play FFVII.

because most people pick a game console based on the game exclusives. also if they have to make it for the 360, theyll have to dumb down the game because of the 360s lack of blu-ray play and slower processor

as walro said, its good for the final fantasy name. lots more people will get exposure to it with this and itll be bringing ff to a whole new generation.
as for the whole game library/exclusivity thing...i dont feel that this is THAT big a hit...xbox will still be known for its shooters and ps3 will still be known for strat and rpgs (wii for parties too but anyways...) the only difference is that a good (hopefully) rpg will be spread to the 360. and lets face it, xbox needs something to save it from being a single genre system...
im hoping this trend of porting promising games to different systems catches on cuz i would love to see star ocean 4 on ps3
