I have to agree with the OP, I'm no old member, but to echo what most people have said, every topic turns to spam here. I almost made a thread like this myself, but I hate to sound like an angry, fun-stopping old goat.

I don't post as much as a lot of people, but when I find a thread I'm interested in and want to post, it'll already have 4 pages in the space of 5-6 hours. What's more, people will go off topic, and it would make me feel out of place/a bit silly posting a reply after 3 pages of spam.

I might sound grumpy but could we at least keep the serious topics on-topic please, I have no problem with anyone messing about or having fun, but not so that it block the discussion threads. ^^

Actually though.... I think I like the spam (sometimes...) because in some serious topics, the posts usually just repeat themselves. And each post has more than one paragraph,... not much of a discussion. More like "sharing the same insights".

Maybe I'll start typing my off-topic or spam posts in a different colour...

...if I can remember how to do that >_<

I just stop reading threads that end up getting too many posts too quickly. I don't have the time, and have better things to do than read spam, though it is amusing, very amusing.

I'm not really an old member, and I do like this forum and contribute when I can. I have ended up joining in a few conversations here and there. This isn't a serious forum, nor is the spamming over the top. I've seen much worse, forums where the admins and mods also joined in. It's in between, with enough intellectual conversation and some "fun stuff".

He's just doing his job. It would probably be easier with less topics to lock, less pages to go through. Though the number of words would be the same.

Well, school has been open to me for a while, but one thing just makes me wonder:
Why would you want a forum to be serious? Is it written in the commandments of the society or in the spinal cord of the mankind? This forum was made for manga and to me manga is not "This is manga, dead serious, smile and die."

a couple of off-topic posts are fine, but it's just too much to carry on with your own conversation for pages....also, isn't it quite rude when you visit another person's thread and start engaging in your own chat with other members? that's like having two people talking on their own topic, and you just interrupt and talk about something that you like.....have some common sense here.....people click a thread to see discussion about that topic, and through reading pages of spamming, the topic had already shifted to something completely different....it's dead annoying when i see spammers do that to someone's thread....

@spammers: try to have some self-control and self-awareness about your posts....there's a limit to spamming too.......carrying on your privated business for pages is just too much >_>

As Cerulean said, please have some self-awareness.

I absolutely cannot keep up with the sheer amount of spam that has been going on. If you feel like you want to engage in a private conversation with someone for pages on end, there is the PM and chat function for that, otherwise, it's rude to derail a topic to such a degree for your own amusement while others are trying to discuss something.

indeed. of course, its not right if you go into a tread and start fapping about crap that has nothing to do with the topic or the current discussing at hand. that's just plain annoying. but if the conversation got to where it is by the natural flow of conversation...why kill it?

It is not like anyone tries to join a topic and suddenly just
starts gaping how plants grow and turn green after putting them
from sand to mud. People speak and then stuff comes out.
