BECK is beyond awesome. Starting out, I really didn't dig the drawing but the plot really drove me to continue. Anyone can easily relate to the passion, hardships and rewards of each of the characters.

I saw the anime first and the medley of musical artists/bands and music references were amazing. I just love Beck. 😃

My top 3 songs...I do love My World Down, Moon on the Water[any version] and Face.

(So, seeing as I have nothing to say to the other two...)

BECK is probably one of the best manga/anime, ever. Without question one of my absolute favourites. The greatest thing about BECK has got to be, the music aspect of it. I mean, on their own, the characters are great, and their relationships are great, but it's really the whole plot behind learning to play, forming a band, and working your ass off to make a name for yourself. This is all choreographed to a kick-ass soundtrack(at least, in animated form).

It's original, and it's very well executed. But that's not all it's got. As I said, the characters are great too. Something about Koyuki is just insanely inspiring. This kid goes from being a complete loser, to becoming a legitimate rock star. Even if he is still, kind of a loser. It's like, he doesn't become someone new, he just does something with who he is. It's great. And that's not even to mention Maho, Ryusuke, and everyone else. Beyond that even, the way the characters interact, their relationships, compared to most manga/anime titles, are very... real. Nothing seems cartoonish or exaggerated, it's all handled so well, and it feels as if you're dealing with real people, who you can then relate to and identify with.

Overall, BECK is spectacular, in every way I can imagine. Now, I just gotta make sure I get my mitts on the entire manga series...

Completely true. I am waiting till I have some fundage so I can get the box set.

I absolutely love Koyuki's SG and his new Mustang is pretty cool too. But Taira's Stingray is my fave by a long shot. I want one so bad, but they cost like 1600 dollars. Ray's L1 archtop is damn sexy too

Honestly, why is there a need to explain the awesomeness of BECK? It's self-explanatory: just read through the first couple of volumes with icky drawings, and you'll find yourself hooked. It's fantastic because of the way it builds up, because of how you can actually see the art improving every chapter, and because - despite the fact that it's about fame and becoming rockstars, etc - it still manages to stay realistic. The characters don't become other people, and they actually could be people. For once there are no stupid simpering females or psychotic men who live for nothing but fighting. There are merely people, people who employ logic and who act for reasons that fit their characters. It probably helps that many of the characters are based on real people, but regardless, they could be real on their own, and that, above all else, is what makes the series so great. The author actually understands how humans think and why they act the way they do, so no matter how fantastical the storyline may seem, you can't help but believe that it could really happen - that maybe it is really happening somewhere in the world.

There may not be a need to explain the awesomeness of Beck, but it sure is fun to talk about.

Beck is ok, but past the anime point it gets really, really repetitive, and slow. The whole "gangster after ryusuke" thing was really boring and drawn out.The manga past the anime ending left a very bitter taste.

Fair enough. Although, I would like to point out the development of the relationship between Koyuki and Maho, which is the other main focal point of the manga. It is worth reading for that alone.

As far as the story being repetitive, I would say somewhat, but not really.

I mean a major character died. They have their American tour. The play at a huge english music festival and kill at it.

Yes, it can be repetitive in a way, but not in a normal manga way. It's not like series like Bleach or Naruto where it's repetitive because the author can't think of anything new. It's repetitive in that every time it seems they're about to make it, it gets ruined - either by time and unforseen circumstance, or by someone who's pissed at them. But the fact of the matter is that this just enriches the series, because it's actually quite realistic. People get screwed over, that's life, and if you're actually talented, you won't get famous overnight. As far as I'm concerned, the repetition found in BECK just adds to it, because it's not fake and pathetic.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd die without my new Bleach every week.

That is the only bad thing about beck, it's monthly. I feel the same way about Ten Ten.

I like the development(sp?) in BECK,I think it feels realistic. ^^,
And I have yet to get tired of it.Even after 31 volumes.

Also, after listening to the soundtrack,I've started to like the bass. 😎

Oh! Thanks for the cookie. 😀

Taira plays a Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray. Those are some of the best basses around. Don't know if the guy recording uses one though.

sounds like one, might be able to find out if you look up the people that did the music such as tropical gorilla or typhoon24( brainstorm and spice of life respectively) or maybe not

It could be a P bass or a J bass too, because the stingray is modeled after those. Although some come with 3 band EQs.

And I thought that typhoon24 did both of those songs?
