These things will never die. For those of you who don't know what a VHS, here is what it is.

Yeah, brings back good memories. And not only for my 70+ cartoon tapes, also my magnificent VCR. I miss those days when you could record your favorite show, watch it, get bored, erase (or overwrite) the same cassette over and over... I can't get the same feeling even with all the technology T.T

Huh...anyone else remember BEFORE the VCR?

If you wanted to watch a movie, you saw it in the theater or waited until it was broadcast on TV.

If you wanted to watch a tv show, you had to watch it whenever the station decided to air it, and if you missed it you were out of luck until summer re-runs.

When VCRs first came out, WOW, amazing!! But too expensive for anyone to own one, so you rented the VCR along with the movies, and getting it all set up could be quite an adventure. 🤣

I loved looking at all of the covers while deciding which movie to watch. We owned a lot of Disney classics and movies like the Prince of Egypt. We keep a VCR in the house...but we don't use D:

I remember recording over and over and overr on the same VHS tape. lol I used to collect large stacks of VHS tapes of shows like charmed, or I love lucy. lol

I remember most of all the agony of having to wait as the cassette rewinded, or have to put play and rewinding to get to a particular show and worrying this would ruin my VCR. I actually watched a tape last year, it was an old workout VHS. It was pretty nostalgic seeing the old grainy quality of a VCR. LOL

Yes, I do. I still occasionally buy and watch vhs.

We have a vcr downstairs but I want one for upstairs. I was going to buy one but I checked last week there were none at the thrift store. They seem to go kind of fast. D:

I have some films on VHS that I don't have on DVD, so yes when I'm at home sometimes I'll want to experience some nostalgia and pop one on.

I remember taping TV shows onto VHS as well, or getting my parents to tape it for me so I wouldn't miss it if I was coming home late from school or something XD
Oh them good ol' days.

I don't use VHS anymore, though i still have a VHS player in my room from years ago and my parents still have a load of VHS tapes and used to use them for recording TV until a while back when they started using rewritable DVDs.

I do not get nostalgic about VHS. My memories of VHS are mostly of:
-poor quality video (crackly, low resolution compared to today's standards etc.)
-how annoying and slow it was to rewind back to the start
-kids playing with the tapes and damaging them
-lack of special features (there was rarely any room for featurettes etc.)
-lack of features considered standard these days like subtitles

As far as I am concerned, good riddance to VHS. Discs are so much more convenient. I have a small collection of DVDs and Blurays which I usually watch on my PS3 or PC (my current PC cannot read Blurays but my new one will be able to).

I also remember Betamax. We had The Nightmare Before Christmas on Betamax. We got the player out a few years ago and tried playing it but it just wouldn't work. I wonder if a DVD would have worked under those circumstances.

Nope. No use for it. I don't even use TV for anything besides watching animu and twitch streams off my PC via HDMI. I am not a fan of anything lossy, be it audio or video.
