Thanks guys.
From what I've heard from other dorm members, they're really strict with stuff like Limewire. But I don't know if they've caught on to bittorrent. I have yet to find another anime fan in the dorms so I can't ask any of them if it's safe.
It's a medium sized school but hardly anyone lives in the dorms so it would be easier for them to check everything.
one of my suitemates got busted for limewire after only using it for around 50 songs, had to pay the $3000 settlement. i wouldnt even go to limewire.com honestly
The manga society here has a library of a few hundred or so, other than that they don't seem to monitor downloads and there are hotspots around the city.
I'd be careful about downloading licensed series if they are monitoring it. In terms of downloading, I favour direct downloads, there's nothing you can't find lying around on the net.

dont be a pussy, and just use utorrent.
or if you are spineless, just plug in a wireless router and connect wirelessly. if they say "blah blah blah copyright material has been downloaded though this port" you can just deny it was you and claim it was someone wirelessly accessing your shit.
at my old apartment i had my internet turned off like 5 times because i kept downloading movies, but that excuse got it turned back on every time.

limewire 😕 !!! what kind of nerds are you guys... seriously?
limewire was like... dunno 5 years ago? maybe more.
learn to use better p2p programs.
or if your still enjoy being ignorant, just use peergaurdian2. most universities dont monitor your IP directly, but have a third party monitor their internet use, then alert them of illegal downloads, ect. and peergaurdian2 blocks those IP's and whatnot. its also freeware. so gl
edit: oh yeah, even if youre using p2p programs like vuze or utorrent, they wont really do anything unless you SEED torrents. its a dick move not to seed, but it will help you fly under the radar

There are rules to protect IP at my University but none of the rules are enforced. One of our lecturers even gave us sites where you can read/dl most of our course books. 🤣

Sounds like the exactly the same thing that happened to some people I knew in my dorm last year, same $3k settlement.
Avoid P2P programs, like Kazaa and Limewire they're just bad news at a college dorm, my school (Northern Illinois University) blocks torrents and IRC clients. I mostly staved off my manga with websites just like Onemanga.com
Once you get an apartment and your own internet like smooth sailing.

Two of mine scanned the books in. (though I think one was out of print)
I know some people like limewire for songs.

Usually Colleges don't look unless there is a problem. If it's something like manga they probably wouldn't care, anime might be a tad different. Just keep your bandwidth usage low, don't do any mega downloading.
If you really don't want to do that, you can go to sites that have manga to view. You know, ones that don't require downloading?
Lastly just try using a internet cafe or something like that and download all you can.

I had the same problem but my school was only a 45 minute drive from my parents house so on weekends I would go home and download enough to last the next week 🙂

Before I had my own internet, I just went to the library and download >.> Usually I prepare a list of manga, log into lib network, queue download and do some stuff for 1 or 2 hours. Theres plenty of DDL sites out there. Google is your friend. Anyway, just dont download too much in one sitting. Also, ask around about your lab/library monitoring policy. Some of them only monitor (large) video files, so if thats the case, just download as much as you want.
Most dorms have their own internal p2p network, again, ask around. I found quite a lot of otaku-ish stuff (manga, anime, eroge) in my network. Lucky me.

A lap top?...
There are also other sites you can read manga online. (But I guess I'm not allowed to specify 😔 )
There are outdoor sources as well. Those internet-cafe thingis?..
And clubs.. As I've learned, they are pretty usefull. Also because people who know thier stuff lurk there.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.
