Right... Another article mischaracterizing anime and manga in order to fill a page to sell advertisements and a sleazy new book. I'd criticize him for singling out Japanese media but he probably did the same to movies, video games and Sesame Street also. It's sad/disturbing to think people actually take articles like these seriously.
Don't bother reading the article. Everyone already picked out the valid points in the thread. That isn't saying much though. There weren't any to begin with.
This is purely contradictory to me. American Prime time television has more cleavage and sex innuendo's in the shows and commercials then anywhere else... except maybe Europe. A classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

hentai is to manga as pornography is to the internet...the internet is the highway of information, and on the side of every highway are prostitutes (not my quote), but that does not mean that every driver on that path are rich ball-less men, like not all otakus are perverts
Whoa, I was under the impression that porn was the primary use of the internet...
Thanks to your comment I laughed so giggled so hard I choked on my cookie >.>
Anyways, just hope my parents don't see that article and assume something kekeke... And nice lil' comparison Cer.

For some reason I found that hilariously funny.
American fans may not go that far — at U.S. conventions, for example, otaku men and women socialize, date and sometimes actually fall in love, unlike their loner Japanese counterparts.
That is just retarded and unnecessary. This is why writers like him don't get famous. Making a stereotypical comment like that and making it sound like it's a fact.

It's exaggerated, and exploits the most shocking or extreme aspects of otaku culture. Doesn't sound too different from any other article then 😛
It's picking out the most extreme elements and acting like every otaku has those traits, but of course in reality there is a sliding scale of otaku tendancies and most people sit along that scale - they're not all at the hardcore end.
