the mangas that i read make it seem like in high school that is the main way to confess to someone. maybe it's just where i went to school, but when i was in high school i don't remember anyone confessing in a letter. although people would write love letters once they were a couple (i do remember people writing letters to confess in elementary and middle school, but not many)

I didn't have the time to read all the posts, but I'd like to know if there are really vending machines with hot coffee or tea in them.

Yes, they have canned hot coffee... like the normal hot coffee machines at every university and quick stop places in the US.

I have a few questions too! How common are foreigners in Japan? Is it like China where there are basically no foreigners unless you're in some major city and even there are very few? Is English a mandatory language in grade school?
