If it's a single player rpg, then probably my name. More characters then I name it after my favorite names, Lucia, Hadeion, and some nice sounding Japanese names occasionally.

Normally I'll name a character either Crau or my last name, though I did name my Khajiit in Oblivion after my cat, Padme, who is in turn named after Padme Amidala from Star Wars.

Usually by what I see in front of me. For example, I'm thinking of naming a character, I'll look around me and if something catch my eye and it sounds decent, I'd put it as my name.

I usually play single player rpgs. With those I go with the default unless there isn't any. So Link is Link(just an example, not saying it's an rpg or it isn't). First time I played a zelda game, I used my name and just found it so ridiculous, I was embarassed and felt like I just tried to pretend to be a wizard in front of a crowd or something.

If I had to make a name I try to make it based on the setting,like ancient greek(pyrus), or Japanese(shion), those are names I've actually used.

If its an MMOG, then I make them up with as much thought as any internet handle because that's how I see them. I actually ended up using my Maplestory handle for my youtube account just caused I liked it that much but I wouldn't reuse them again(it'd be boring).

I use a different name for each character or account. Those are mainly taken from mangas or animes I like.

I NEVER use a famous name from a book/movie/manga/anime... Other than that, I just try to make it fit the theme - no "modern" names in fantasy and so on. I think I'm quite good at coming up with names... having played a lot of pen & paper RPGs helps I guess 😀
