I usually start reading new series if the summary is interesting. I used to do it by looking at the comments but I learned that my opinions usually differ from the comments.

I usually end up reading a new series from a friend's recommendation.

but to one person you may be the world."

(Even though the quote above is from Hamlet, I first saw it in a Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer on YouTube ^o^)

Most important to me is art, so the cover is very important. If the cover looks good, I will probably read it (unless there's something else that "disqualifies" it from stuff I will read, like if it's yaoi, lolicon, smut, etc.), and if it doesn't look good, I probably won't look at it ever again.
Second important is that the summary seems good.
My taste is a little unusual, so I mostly ignore popularity and rating. I might look at comments, though, to get a better idea of what the series is about.
Edit: I forgot one other reason: spoiler paranoia. I so detest spoilers that if people who talk to me read it, I'll read it just so that nothing will be spoiled for me.
Usually the art.
Next is the summaries I guess. Although sometimes you find some that are very vague and offer no insight at all. I still go for it though. I'll learn what's going on as I read 🤣
I skim the comments sometimes, but I take them with a handful of salt.
But yeah. If it looks like its got nice art, I'll go for it.
I usually browse by tags.
Sometimes just randomly when I see
that a chapter of a new series of an acceptable demographic
has been scanlated.
Rarely, but at times, I see what's new or popular and read that.
If it looks and/or sounds interesting, I'll read it.

I find new mangas to read by using the advanced search and picking the genres I want to read. Then I go to the top rating mangas of that genre/genres and choose from there. I read mangas with eye catching art work with cool looking characters like Dogs, Deadman Wonderland. Also I read mangas depending on the ratings and comments posted about the manga itself. If it has positive ratings I always tend to read it. Therefore it is important for people to give their honest opinion on the mangas they read so people can know what's good or not. 😃

It's hard to say xD
First i look the genre and the cover if i like it or not, and after that i read the summary to see if i like the plot and in the end i read, if there is, the comments. So i choose Summary as my main reason xD
The other reason (name, popularity, recommendation, author) is more what will make me interessted enough to look at the manga page to see if i'll read it or not.

1.First is the art (cover is important),
2.Then the genre, and finally 3.the summary.
I never look at rating
If a friend recommend something to me, I check the name on MU and go through the process 1.2.3.

Well well this one wasnt easy in my case
Normally if the cover calls my attention, but the final decision
TThe rating
of course is not always that way, but if the rating is high or the comments are good i would add it to my wish list, the review is important too, the genres... all that
but only if im doubting too much ill go with that option
** "It's so warm that, Before the snow has a chance to stick, He melts it for me." **
Usually, I read it if it's from one of my favorite authors. But if I run out of stuff to read from them, then if the title is catchy or if it has categories that I like, then I read it. I don't really look at ratings and comments since that's others' personal opinions.

Every reason in the poll 😀 But if i had to choose I'd say it's because of the reviews.

summary, rating, then art.
