I do it for exactly the same reason as secretdesires' reason. Speculation. I remember I was reading Nozoki Ana, and at one point, the volume ended with the situation turning for the worst. I was so desperate to find out if terrible things will happen in the next chapter, that I went ahead and look though the raws. Once I was certain the situation would resolve in a satisfying manner, I stopped looking at the pictures and decided to wait for the translation, which came a few weeks later. It would had drive me crazy if I had to wait and pray that nothing bad will happen, while imagining all the solutions in the case of terrible outcomes.

Now that you mention it, a chapter ending in a cliffhanger is probably the number one reason I look for a raw. Number two is that no one is scanlating the damned series.
