Non-Japanese manga -> generally don't like (with a few exceptions), the art may generally be better in Manhwas but I just can't get used to the names used and most of the 'settings' (i.e. every single Manhwa I've ever read that takes place at school was about or involved with gangs)... Apparently this is 'normal' in S. Korea?... But yes, mostly because of the names.

OEL?

American comics -> Pretty much dislike all 'mainstream' comics, why does every comic need to be about some superhero/actionhero? There are of course also comics not about heroes... but these are few and often not 'American' in origin (imported from Europe).

European comics -> O, Franco-Belgian comics remain the best source for very nice art and good story (not about silly superheroes)... Sadly these comics are mostly only released in French and require a helping hand from scanlators.

I like them equelly but for OEL. never read one and never going to.

I think it's a mistake to lump OEL in with manhua/manhwa. Manhu/wa are on a par with manga (some specific series are better, some specific series aren't as good, but overall they're equal), but OEL is chincy 90% of the time.
The problem is that manhw/ua are done is their natural style, whereas OEL is nearly always done as a poor immitation of "real" manga, and it shows. Manhw/ua succeeds without even trying while OEL tries to be something it's not & fails miserably.

I went ahead & voted for the "just as good" option because manhu/wa really are just as good as manga, but I definitely think that OEL should be seperated out either into an independant poll, or as some "manhua/manhwa are good but OEL sucks" option.

"OEL" doesn't refer to "normal" comics, it refers to comics which are done in a manga-like style, but in native english (although pseudo-manga other european/latin languages usually gets lumped in with OEL).

I went back and forth on this one but in the end I went with just as good (except for OEL which is just plain bad)

But the majority of Manhua and Manhwa I've read have been good. I've only actually read I think two manhua but they were both quite good. I have read a whole lot of Manhwa though. And what makes them on par with manga while they both may be manga influenced and overall pretty similar they do each have their own vibe going on, with unique strengths (and weaknesses) which if nothing else are a nice change of pace. OEL really doesn't seem to have a soul of it's own, at least not the ones I've read and I've read quite a few.

I nearly went with 'manga's still the best' because except for "Ares" none of them struck me as spectacular, but on the flip side none of them have been god awful either. While I've read a lot really horrible manga. But I think that's because I've read more manga.

I actually like American comics, but I haven't read too many due to the fact I'm not that much of a fan.

As for manhwa, I love it. I'm used to Japanese names when it comes to comics and stuff, so seeing non-Japanese names is kind of confusing for me. Anyway, I mostly read manhwas for the art and the stories are usually beyond my expectations so...

I love all comics, though I don't generally care for anything marked OEL. They tend to be some very generic manga series. Mind there are a couple that were quite good. Suppose most American Comics that aren't generic manga are published as comics.

And I know that there's a lot of super hero comics but they really aren't the entirely of the American comic industry. I mean the entire manga industry isn't Moe Moe stuff even though there's a lot of that.

I don't live in America and almost never visit a comic shop (we don't really have those where I live), so don't know how much of what is generally available, but from what I see/hear Marvel and DC are pretty mainstream (together with Dark Horse and maybe a small few others).
Though, from everything I've seen so far, most are focussed on 'heroes' (super-abilities). Something you don't see as often in European comics or Manga.

I admit I don't actively look or search the American comic market for what I like, from what I've seen so far though I'm not impressed and generally prefer Japanese and European comic art.

Maybe I could look more, but I'm just not really interested. Probably the same for many people unfamiliar with Manga and are bombarded with Naruto this and Bleach that... You just turn around and try to ignore it.
