That’s an interesting premise. I despise purple prose though!

If I recall correctly, the leprosy is most heavily explored in the first trilogy. The author spent some of his childhood growing up near a leper colony in India, where his father worked as a missionary doctor, so his take on the disease and the behavioral mitigations for it is well-informed based on the medical knowledge from the time.

I read the first 6 books over 20 years ago, so I don't recall too many specifics. I do remember that both the third and sixth book worked as stopping points, and some comments around the web suggest the prose isn't as bad in the first 3 books as the rest of the series. Came back to the final four books a few years ago when I heard they'd finished, and they were a real slog.

for anyone that doesn't know, deaf is not silence, typically you have tinnitus sound\s. so that's all you 'hear' from then on...

honestly, if I went deaf now, I would at least be able to more easily acquire something to end that existence once the constant noise got to me.

your existence becomes far more annoying, constantly needing to check to see if anything is wrong with you for almost anything. let's take a slip on ice for instance, we get up and we know whats wrong almost instantly, and we have experience falling so we know how to take it, but remove touch and now, you may not have taken the fall correctly and put far to much force on a part of the body that shouldn't have taken that force.

chewing could also be be bad, imagine biting your lip but never stopping because there is no pain. its not impossible to live like this, just very annoying.

Well, this is a "manga"updates site.. so I think the majority of us wouldn't want to be blind?
I think braille and audio books in my native language is still quite limited too. I prefer to learn sign language instead..

blind because we have more than 4 other senses (though a lot are under touch technically like hot), you also lose your sense of body position, for example with your eyes closed you would have no idea where your head is pointed at.

I do love my music but I would live with the memories of it as blindness leaves you too dependent
