You know i've been wondering, do people actually do wat they do in the expressions they send on the net? U know like lol, or rolf(this cant be true) or maybe XD, 🙂 , 😲 . . do people actually do those things? or is it just the way to say how ur feeling in internet language without actually doing the things u say? like ill give u an example.
When u say lol do u actually laugh? or is that just a giggle?
When u say rolf do u actually roll on the floor laughing? or just laugh a few seconds? or maybe even just a light giggle?
The reason y i bring this topic up is cause i went to my friend's house like a week ago and i witnessed the most amazing thing!
When we were chating on the net, he said imao and he wasnt even laughing. Not even showing any emotion... he said he typed it in to make the person happy.
Wonder if other people do the same thing

Not really. The only emoticon I ever really use is "-_-;;", and its exceedingly difficult to have an anime-style sweatdrop. However, I probably have some sort of sarcastic or cynical expression when I use it.

I mostly use "XD," since I think ROFL and LOL are kinda tacky. =/

I normally don't match the expressions of my emoticons, though. Like, I might use "XD" when I'm only smiling or chuckling under my breath... It's more of an exaggeration of my emotional response, not necessarily my physical one. Example: I might feel a bit exasperated, so I might use the "-_-" emoticon, but my face doesn't actually look like that.

This is kind of a pointless question. o.O When you use "o.O" or something similar, you only 'feel' that way. You don't suddenly widen one eye to your computer screen.

I bet that most people when they type 'XD' or something similar, that they're maintaining a blank look all the time. Maybe sometimes a small smile, or an occasional giggle/laugh. Haven't you ever seen a person type from a webcam?

It differs from person to person, though. And some people have a smile plastered on their face all the time. But I don't think anyone would be 'rolling on the floor from laughing'. ... Funny thought, though. xD

Edit: It also annoys me, when someone uses only 'lol' or 'lmao' too much. >.<

nope, i do occasionally laugh when i type in lol. but usually I dont. I suppose the face emoticons and what not serve as some sort of reminance of a human connection between an otherwise sorta emotionless detachment due to the unface to face (or voice to voice) interaction. Awkard phrasing but I really couldn't think of any other way to word it.

I actually do lmao when I type that. And I even lol. I've only ever used rofl twice, and both times I actually did so. However I do tend to use lol too much, but no, if I don't think something is funny I won't lol.

Sarcasm just doesn't work over the internet.

I always have this goofy smile when I'm chatting. It's embarrassing. 😀

Oh, and if people haven't noticed by now, I love using "XD" a lot. Just to make things less serious, I guess. And I guess it also reflects how I am in real life. When I'm with friends I smile almost all the time (almost the same frequency that I use "XD" in the forums). I always look like the happiest person on earth. XD

I rarely say lol but when I do, I'm really laughing inside. 😀
