I agree with that! I am starting to play FF8 and the music from the aperture CG is awesome!

In no particular order: Wild Arms 3; Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim; and Banjo Kazooie.
Michiko Naruke is a god damned genius, and I extend the same praise to whomever it was that did Majesty's soundtrack, though I haven't been able to properly figure out his name. Not quite the same level of praise for Banjo Kazooie, because half of the awesomeness of the soundtrack was the sound design aspect--instrumentation changes per location, etc, was incredible and immersing. Banjo Twooie was almost as good; I hope that BK3 raises the bar come 4Q 08.

Well the soundtrack for Super Smash Brothers Brawl is just amazing, not only in quality, but variety, and number. Themes range from epic and highly orchestrated to silly and playful and the song always matches the stage you are on or fit the cutscene you happen to be watching perfectly.
Im really not much of one to pay too much attention to the soundtrack on a video game, but the Super Smash Brothers series has never failed to meet my expectations of a truly awesome soundtrack.

Wait, aren't the songs like remixes from other games? I've never played Brawl though so I don't know if they're original songs.
@tps2, are you talking about Liberi Fatali?
You guys should go to Video Games Live! It's a video game symphony concert and it's really really fun!!

best overall soundtrack: FFX
best single song: The best is yet to come (Metal Gear Solid)

How about I add a(nother?) non-Japanese game to this list. Well, games, really. Anyway, the Might & Magic series (not Heroes of Might and Magic, but the older RPGs by the same producers).
I'm (maybe) biased towards these oldies because they're what started me into gaming. But really, they all had awesome soundtracks for their time, and I'll personally say that I'll take the soundtracks on MM6 or MM8 over anything from the games of the present.
They're all purely instrumental, btw. No vocals.

I liked the DMC3 soundtrack for the first 5 minutes, and then it got really repetitive.
I find that happens with a lot of video games.

I really like Yasunori Mitsuda's works, namely on Chrono Trigger (on which he and Uematsu collaborated), Chrono Cross, Xenogears and the first Xenosaga. Xenosaga II and III's soundtracks are also some of my favorites.
Most of the Final Fantasy OST's have great music in my opinion, at least those composed by Nobuo Uematsu and many tunes just seem to stick. Suikoden I and II are up there on the list, as well as Kingdom Hearts I and especially II.
If I had to chose all time favorites I'd go with Chrono Trigger and FFVI OSTs, for nostalgia's sake and great, memorable tracks.

Hell March! 😀
Half life 2' soundtrack is not bad. I would prefer Unreal' or the one from the original Deux Ex. They've got a dark edge that pleases me.

Square Enix Games (it's kind of a given)
I own all of the (N64 and newer consoles) Zelda OSTs and some random .mp3s of the fewer bit zelda games...
I liked DMC3 (also own that) and a few songs from DMC4
I rather liked the music from the Fable games, even though they're somewhat generic
Ah, and for nostalgia's sake, the soundtrack from Everquest, as it was my first mmo and I pretty much developed my fast typing skills from it. Especially login screen song, despite being a corny fanfare, it brings back alot of memories.
hmm, I also liked P3's ost, even though it got really repetitive...

Suikoden series has the most epic soundtrack ever. Especially Suikoden II and III.
I even downloaded the vocal version of the music.
