Who do you usually root for - the bad guy or the good guy?

Well for me it would depend in what context the bad guy is and basically how bad he actually is.If it was skip the beat then it would be Ren all the way, if it was hana yori dango then it would be domyouji etc I tend to go for the more obvious choice in mangas the one who you know the lead is SUPPOSE to end up with, which is usually the bad guy. I find the good guy pretty boring but if hes the one the lead is suppose to end up with I tend to root for him any way.

The moment the girl gets the good boy (or vice versa) all the tension and thrill is gone and followed by endless lovey-dovey-a-little-drama-and/or-smut-to-keep-the-reader-awake boredom...
With the other guy, there is still the thought of what could be. The playfulness, the looks, the sneaking around... much better! And since this person usually tends to be less "nice" and more adventurous (-> bad), he/she becomes more attractive to the bored reader.
At least in the case that I am the bored reader 🙄
but most women here seem to think similarly, thus it is a theory, ha.

Bad guys are fun. Usually in shoujo the bad guys are just misunderstood. They really like the Heroine but they just don't know how to communicate it.
It can be SO CUTE!

I almost ALWAYS root for the guy that doesn't get the girl. Always, always. For Vampire Knight (Zero), Ouran High School Host Club (Hikaru), Skip Beat, Anatolia Story (Ramses, the other prince), Tenshi Ja Nai, Nana, all the crappy shoujo whose names I don't remember
The series where I root for the lucky guy who actually does get the girl:
Hana Kimi (Sano), Fruits Basket (Kyo), Cat Street, Moe Kare
...my list seems to be working against me. Maybe I just think that I always root for the wrong guy because I get so angry and emotional when the other guy scores. >_<

It really depends on the manga, but I do usually go for the "good guy" type.

I root for the nice guy but the nasty jerk almost always wins. The only time I rooted for the bad guy was in Kakan no Madonna, and then of course the good guy won.

I just root for the guy that I would love.... like Zero in Vampire knight, or belive it or not beagle in skip beat (although i love Ren too....) or the little dude in Meru puri. Then sometime i don't root for anybody (like in twilight, both guys are toooooo nice and love sick (barf)) looks are important too me too.... if he's to die 4 and moody i'm on his team.

well usually the good guy, but sometimes the bad guy like Light for Death Note although I don't really think he's a bad guy

Whoever is the underdog, usually. Sometimes I will like both guys equally so I don't care who it is. I just hate when it is too obvious who will end up with who. >> (which it usually is)
