Has anyone noticed the weird mark on Sasuke's left eye? o.O It wasn't there before.

it looks like orochimaru's eye... i wonder if its because he is weakened and relies too much on the cursed mark that the snake is gaining ground.

susanoo isn't a surprise it was mentioned in the pretime skip and i think its a giant skeletal frame surrounding itachi, so i assume its a summons of sorts

Susano was never mentioned, only implied due to the existence of Amaterasu and Tsukiyomi (based on Japanese mythology). It was just widely speculated that Kakashi's mangekyou sharingan was the Susano, which this chapter proves to be wrong. Finally we get to a point where Sasuke might get pwned (and not in a damn genjutsu).

If Sasuke walks out of this battle with all his body parts I'd be sadly disappointed.
As for the eye, it could be a sign of Orochimaru's spirit regaining dominance, but idk. Who knows, he might take over Sasuke's body in mid battle similarly to how Hollow Ichigo took over Ichigo's body in his battle vs. Byakuya.

ok, chapter. Seemed a bit short though, but what can you expect. Perhaps Oro will take over again. That would certainly be a plot twist. I doubt it though. 😀 😎

Would like to give three reminders:

First, Kishimoto is a self-professed Dragon Ball Z fanboy. As much as you're complaining about the battle not ending, be thankful he's not spending chapters of constipated fighters powering up to fire an attack that becomes a joke as it completely misses.

Second, if you don't like it battles that take forever, dont' read Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball Z etc... It's part of the battle shounen genre. Deal with it.

Third, even if Sasuke is functionally defenseless (which he's probably not as the cursed seal gives additional chakra to those with the mark) I would not count him dead. I know it's been a while but Naruto and friends ARE in the area and I seriously doubt they missed the mother of all lightning bolts crashing from the sky.

According to the translations I've read Itachi just mentions the names Amaterasu and Tsukiyomi after blasting the hole in the wall of Jiraiya's jutsu. He might have mentioned Susano, but not in the trans I've read.

True, but they are at the moment preoccupied with their own battles with respective Akatsuki members. Naruto's group may split up with Team 8 + Yamato or Kakashi vs. Tobi (it would be awesome if Team 8 proves to be worthy match for the "legendary" Uchiha Madara, but I highly doubt that) and team 7 going to the battle scene. Juugo and Karin might also leave Suigetsu to fight (and hopefully be overpowered by) Kisame, but Kisame may prove to be more than match for all three of them.

apparently susano, the romanization of susanoo is a shinto god of storms and the brother of amaterasu the goddess of the sun and tsukoyomi, the god of the moon. they spawned from the demon lord Izanagi, creator of the land, when he severed ties with his demonic past, each coming to life, amaterasu when he washed his left eye, tsukoyomi the right and susano his nose. as a result of Izanagi's purification. tsukoyomi is the first born and thus the first dojutsu we see, while amaterasu is the second born and it is the second dojutsu we see, susano is the third born and the third dojutsu we see. susanoo is also responsible for killing Yamata-no-Orochi and creating from one of his tails the sword of kusanagi.

we can only speculate if this mythology will have any more baring on the story for now. perhaps oroch's eye is appearing for more reasons than meets the eye!

Yet another cliffhanger, I think the chapter is just another delay... except the whole introducing two new technique. The chapter was still enjoyable.

Orochimaru appears! =O Since Sasuke has used all his chakra this was the perfect chance for Oro to take over after saying to Sasuke in his mind that he needs him. ... Though he'll get pawned by Itachi, again. >.< Itachi's got some mystical sword that Oro has been looking all over that captures the one they stab in some sort of genjutsu world for all eternity. ... So that'll be the last we'll see from Oro. >.< Although Kabuchimaru is still there.
