I havent really noticed much hate while I have been here, there is the occasional fight but its between only a small group of members and most seem to keep away.

im still quite surpised at how he got over 1.4k posts in such a short amount of time 😛

Quite a feat xombie

And most of it wasn't pointless spam 😛 .

xombiemonkey@ thank you.!

MajorMarmot@ thanks, I think you're nice too 🙂

lambchopsil, Cerulean, AuraBlaze@ hmmm... yes, that makes sense. But I 've always thought it was elite-ism or something like that...

I have to go for the elitism.

All communities have social levels, and people from higher social levels look down upon people with lower levels.

I think MU's social levels could be something like this:

1- Founder
2- Admins
3- Scanlators
4 - People that add info to the database.
5 - Posters.

And even posters have some kind of hierarchy, based in the date they joined and the number of posts.

But in our RL we already have a social status.

Most of the time we understand and act according our position in that hierarchy in our RL communities.

But here, how are we supposed to act? Thinking in our RL or MU's status?

The problem in internet communities is that you never know who you are talking to, and it's hard to act without that basis. And there are people that look down upon people that think they deserve more respect.

Example: A person with a PhD is bashed by a 14 years old kid for being a total N00b. The kid my think he has the right to bash the noob because he's knowledge in manga is superior and he has 4000 posts, but the Doctor is used to receive more respect....and he has a freaking Phd.

Anyway, I do believe that there are people that look down upon others here, and that could be confused with "hate".

Well, while the kid doesn't have right to bash anyone, if he knows more about manga than the phD, he's got every right to say so-he just shouldn't be so obnoxious about it. But the 14 year old also shouldn't be a brat when showing of his manga knowledge to 14 year olds or anyone else-okay, so they know more about the fandom/canon/Japanese culture/whatever-everyone's got that one really obscure topic they know far too much about. Though I also don't think that a phD automatically entitle someone to respect-it's just another degree, one for doing highly specialized research that is often only useful to maybe 1% of the population, if anyone. (Ok, so it's the jaded college student creeping speaking, but ...)

And even posters have some kind of hierarchy, based in the date they joined and the number of posts.

Also on the content and tone of their posts, and their general behavior-posters seem more knowledgeable tend to get more respect, so do ones that put more substance in their posts, being a part of the community (interacting, making friends) helps so long as boundaries are respected.

I haven't been here too long, but I'm not seeing many differences from the other fandom I was in (for 5 years), and from what I observed there, it's really not any different from RL. Observe the situation, participate, be polite, use commonsense, and well try to make friends with the cool kids-but don't try too hard or you look pathetic.

You may be all missing the point...except story645 ( logical thinking always wins 🙂 )

Newbies are good. If they're nice, interesting guys ( no flaming, no hardcore rules breaking, ) , they are usually liked be everyone and treated very friendly. Some of them even get an invitation to sromu.

Why it's not happening for some of the current newbies...it's really easy to tell.

I could list the reasons for this situation, but I'd like you all to get to it yourself. I will post here only one thing, that may be putting the newbies in some disadvantage - posting in the 18+ section. We all know, that some ppl post there when they're like 17 yo, that seems fine with the mods. But a 14 yo kid posting there? 15 yo?

Ok, now to the good part - hierarchy 🤣

1- Founder
2- Admins
3- Scanlators
4 - People that add info to the database.
5 - Posters. That would be funny.

Here you can't use your RL social status or education level. Ppl judge you solely by your posts. For example, posting one title in a recommendation request thread, or giving 4 words answers in other threads may get you classified as a person that doesn't bring anything good/creative to this forum.

The only thing, that can make you ppl gain some respect and "status" you want that badly, is posting using your brain. What that means, I don't have to explain ( or at least I hope so , though I have no reasons to be that optimistic ).

The best example for what you cen get as a reward for posting using your brain, is probably Kaioh. He posted in some thread ( sorry but I don't remember in which one ) the pm Manick sent him when he asked him to become a mod. The important thing is - Manick wrote, that he noticed Kaioh's "high quality posts".

In short - you want some respect or a place in the "hierarchy"? Earn it, like everyone else. Just don't push it too much...

Crying over "hate" here on MU, won't ever make ppl react in a positive way to posts, that contain mainly crap and nothing else.

Quote from MajorMarmot

Yeah, if you get hated by other members, that's not a big deal, but if the admins hate you......then you have some trouble! On the contrary. When mods "hate" you, you're just being hated by few ppl. When the members hate you - you're being rejected by at least some part of the community. And that's sad.

One more thing - I see, that ppl tend to judge others by the number of posts. Be carefull with that.

Ok, that's all from me, I think. It may look like I took the elder members' side ( I am not one, btw, and it was really amusing to see my name in the "coolest person" thread 🤣 ), but that's not exactly true. If I did not care about the newbies, I wouldn't post such a long explanation here. Well, you could read it and use the hints...or read it and forget about it. It's up to you.

sigh my tea got cold...

Well, for those of you that are new there was a extremely heavy crackdown on spam a couple months back. I'm sure there are some out there that see all these posts by new people and are feeling there's a double standard going on, not saying there is one. Others, those that were happy about the crackdown, I'm sure aren't happy to see another spike in the spam flying around here. Still more are manga purists and feel that this forum should be first and foremost about manga, you've gotta admit the most active discussion lately hasn't been about manga. A large number of folks are just waiting for the other shoe to drop and the second coming of the spam slayers.

Anywho, that's probably where the majority of the anger is coming from.

i personally havent been feeling the hate but this me we're talking about but i have noticed that thier is harsh feelings. I think this is because thiers not enough crazy ones joining. like mams was a spam god because he could get people to spam with him but thiers no one like him to ease the tension. also its winter (i call it the dry season) that always affects peoples attitudes.

Well, if you don't know that already, you rather won't need that knowledge anytime soon 🤣
