Just a suggestion (duh), but I was thinking we could have something resembling a reader counter, where readers of a manga select an option similar to 'I am reading this manga'. No user info needs to be provided.
It'll be a good way to gauge a manga's popularity, and it has a few other uses as well.

Actually, if you look near the bottom of an information page for a manga, they show how how many reading lists it's on, which is pretty much what your talking about.

Then choose one of the list stats.

But isn't that one restricted to public lists? I was thinking this one should just be a counter, and nothing else. That would make it possible to open it to non-users too, though they might spam. You guys(mods) might have a method to deal with that.

The number of readers counts the total number of reading lists a series is on, regardless of whether those lists are public or not.

Allowing non-users to add to a reader count makes no sense.

There is no way to prevent multiple votes; such a system would be intrinsically broken. Also, what non-user would come to Mangaupdates and note that they read a series? Might as well make an account.

People use BU only for info too. These people don't usually register.

Such users would gain nothing from noting they read a series. Why would they press the "I'm reading this button"?

As I already said, it might not be that useful. Basically, I had the idea of counting readers of a manga who didn't purchase the manga, and hence were not included in the official counting.
