it took me a while to properly understand the symbolism in the ending...its such a deep manga. a real masterpiece.
I've read lots of allegedly disturbing stuff(narutaru, ichi the killer, freesia(other stuff by this mangaka are even more insane), believers etc etc) but for some reason homunculus is the only one that seriously shocked me(not scarred-me-for-life shocking though) and after finishing it I had to preoccupy myself with other things for a while because at the time it was just not possible to reach a good conclusion or interpretation about the ending...this was very unusual for me, im the kind of person who would obsess over a story's ending for a while before letting it go. in this case it was the other way round I didn't try to analyze the ending at all until umm maybe a month later
what was disturbing about after school nightmare's ending? I thought it was brilliant! I would say the dilemma at the beginning when the main character was torn between being male or female was more disturbing

So.. I didn't read the manga yet, I just watched the anime.. the first two seasons of Fate/Zero.. I still don't know what happened with the last two episodes o.O??!!!! it was going so well 😢

Because that is how the novel went? Plus since it is a prequel to Fate/Stay Night, the ending was kinda set to stone. The various events from the 4th Grail war weight heavily on the 5th war.
It also serves to understand the implications concerning the Grail itself, basically being a vessel of pure evil due to it being tainted with the essense of Angra Mainyu.
