Things Schools Do Not Teach You

Ok, so I went to my old elementary school and my old teacher gave me a sheet with a cool set of rules about life that was written by Charles something(forgot his name) and I really thought it was cool so I'm posting it up and I also want to see people's opinions on it. 😀
Rule 1: Life is not fair, get used to it.
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of highschool. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone, until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping. They call it Opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes. Learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes, and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades, and they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to get jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

The most major thing that school does not teach you is that the institutions and governments that make our decisions for us really don't care about our well being. Its an interesting day when you finally realize that that our entire society is based upon an illusion.

My first reaction was that rule 9 doesn't really apply if you're a teacher -_-;;.
Most of them are pretty much true, but I couldn't help but disagree with 7. It seems blatantly off to me to care about pleasing your parents more than any of the myriad of problems the world has. I'm sure everyone has at least a few things about the world they think need to be fixed- those problems affect everyone, rather than one or two people out of six billion.
@VenusInFurs: Regardless of whether or not the government actually does care, they at least have to pretend that they do on some level and function for the general benefit of society, otherwise you end up with revolts and revolution. I could care less about the personal feelings of those involved as long as the job is completed adequately.

NightSwan also said that she wanted to peg me, once, but I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or a threat...

Rule 11 is flawed in it's parametrization of people. Not nerds, just people with abilities. Nerds become researchers, people with good academic grade and social skills become the boss for the nerds. So be nice to everyone, not just the nerds.
Additional rule 1: Never be caught in a cycle of depression.
Additional rule 2: A quotation from dear, but dead, Polonius of "Hamlet"
[[[Give thy thoughts no tongue,
Nor any unproportion’d thought his act.
Be thou familiar, but by no means vulgar.
Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried,
Grapple them unto thy soul with hoops of steel;
But do not dull thy palm with entertainment
Of each new-hatch’d, unfledg’d comrade. Beware
Of entrance to a quarrel; but, being in,
Bear’t that the opposed may beware of thee.
Give every man thine ear, but few thy voice:
Take each man’s censure, but reserve thy judgment.
Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not express’d in fancy; rich, not gaudy:
For the apparel oft proclaims the man;
And they in France of the best rank and station
Are most select and generous chief in that.
Neither a borrower nor a lender be:
For loan oft loses both itself and friend;
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
This above all,—to thine own self be true;
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.]]]

Everyone's different, both in mind and body. Some will agree some won't. Personally I don't care, I do what I want and let wanderlust control me. I'm just annoyed with society because so many are morally inept. Just the other day some HS punk's were beating on 6th grader's. Don't get me started on television. And no, my boss is way easier to please then my hardcore "Reach stick to the -back of the head-" teacher.

still, half of that can be related to confucius teachings somehow >< if taken out of modern context
