When I first started watching anime, I saw nothing wrong with the dubs but the more anime I watched I ended up having to watch subbed because some weren't dubbed and then I went back and watched some of my favorite animes in the original version and I have to say that every subbed version I have watched trumps the dub. For me, sub is better because it is just more authentic and it just sounds better. Now when I watch a dub, I will end up laughing because it sounds ridiculous and some things just don't translate as well into english.

Original language when it comes to anything. Can't really stand Kingdom Hearts in Japanese, for example, when I've grown up hearing Disney characters in English.

Also note that it's a lot easier to recognize bad acting in a language you understand than in a language you don't, which might explain some people's preference for subbed anime when the dub might even be better.

Granted, I understand Japanese and don't need subtitles, so maybe I am in the minority here.

Subs ... I just like them more, with one exception I found most anime dubs sounding weird, might be and because I'm used to subs more (in my country all the foreign movies are subbed)

Subs! FTW! Dubs sometimes put me off, especially if the voices re really annoying >.> lol Like Whoever was voicing Ayano from Kaze no Stigma on Animax, really 😕 It's kinda irritating to the ear.

Oh I prefer subs all the way.

There are some dubs that are actually kinda decent, but there's too much crap out there to shift through, so I'd rather take the original.

Overall, I prefer subbed. I like hearing the Japanese. Mainly because I want to learn the language. I know I need to do more than just watch Japanese shows to learn the language, but I feel like its still a good step until I can take classes.

There are times when I prefer dubbed. Like when I've already gotten used to the dubbed version before realizing there was a subbed version. It's hard to switch versions once you get used to hearing certain voices. Also, there are times when the dialogue is so fast that it makes it hard to keep up with the subtitles.

But I was wondering if anyone's noticed that dubbed versions are less likely to have translations for written things, like signs or letters, etc. Maybe its just the few dubbed versions I have come across, but a lot of times they leave that stuff out, even when its important to the story.

Most dubs I watch have...voices that don't suit the character and it sounds slightly off. ( dub exception for me, ff7: advent children)

i like Japanese's voice. it fits character's image, especially in Japan setting anime.
dubs sound really awkward.
so far the only decent dubs i have encountered are from Appleseed and FLAG (the one with the war reporter)

I prefer the subs.
Mainly because nowadays when they make dubbed versions the voices don't fit the characters at all. All people seem to care about when casting their VA's is name and name alone. It doesn't seem to matter to them if the voice is accurate for the characters or not.
At least the subs usually fit the characters quite well.

I also really dislike when female characters in the dubbed versions sound way too high pitched, like you can tell they're faking it with that horrible voice.

Just my opinion though.

For the most part I prefer subs, mainly fansubs. I used to prefer dubs before I started reading manga and found out how the translations for the dubs got watered down for release in the US. An exception to this is Dragon Ball Z. I'd never watched subbed DBZ and I found an OVA or something that hadn't been dubbed so I thought I'd watch it but the voice for adult Goku was this high pitched annoying thing and I couldn't stand it. I was only able to watch a few minutes before I couldn't stand it anymore.

Dubs suck! Have you ever watched full metal alchemist dubbed?! Terrible! Ed is supposed to sound like pubescent(or however you spell that) 15 year old but in dubbed he sounds like a 30 year old transvestite!!! It was nasty! Subs are almost always better, but I liked inuyasha and fruits basket dubbed.

It's mostly because of a sudden change in the american voice actors a couple of years back in One Piece. All of a sudden Sanji had a completely different accent, I've watched subs ever since. The shock was too much. 🤢

By the way, a train robbery means... come to the destination by train, then commit a robbery... then jump on a train and run. Or something like that, right?
