Can i ask if depends and i don't really care are actually the same as no?

Depends = Depends on the story or mangaka or whatever [so this is the same as No]
I don't really care = Don't care about the art [also no] <- unless you don't care about the main topic of this thread then why even bother voting? O.o... survey?

hm.....? you make a good point. It made sense when I put it in one of the choices.

I guess it's:
Yes: the drawings effect if I read the manga or not
No: I will read it even if it is ugly\the drawings do not effect whether I read the manga or not
Depends: if story is good, I will read\if drawing is nice I will read it
I don't really care: I just like to read manga in general\some people say it's ugly but I don't think so\ugly or not I will read it.

hm......still doesn't really make sense......meh......that's the best I can come up with. I fail at life.

haha, oh it's yoyo, wait no yoyo is the girl monkey... well i forgot the guy's name but anyway!!

It doesn't matter some people vote for them anyway.

By all mean Art DOES matter, from a personal perpective, art is what normally what catches one's eye to read it. That's how I first met CLAMP's mangas.

The art itself is the fruits of mangaka's work, so you can't leave out the art

Although without a good storyline, the art won't do much, so there always has to be a balance when making manga 😃

Now if the art is really sucky, then what's the point of making a manga, when you can create a novel?. . . So far I haven't read such a thing with sucky art 🤨 But that's just me . . .

the only art i usually don't like is the stereotypical shoujo. it's all good except generally I can never tell any of the male characters apart. there all six feet tall with the same hair and face. maybe it's just me?

Ive probly got alternate plots to some shoujo manga in my head b/c I just barely knew who all the girls kept talking too.....

Agreed. Stereotypical shoujo is the only time when the art can deter me from reading the manga-- everybody has the same face and eyes. Those trends are usually assisted by mundane personalities which makes me steer away from them completely, despite the storyline.

Yes,cause if the artwork didn't catch my attention,it'd also be ard for me to get into the storyboard
but in another way if the manga only have the drawing but no storyboard I'd just throw the manga out instead of reading it

Like a couple people before me had said, the art catches me in and the plot keeps me going. As long as it aint ugly...and ugly has its own definition...I prefer art which has either simple sketches or a medium amount of detail. i dont like too much detail unless its background or something.

And also:

Question?: Has any one searched through M-U to find a manga, and later finds a decent plot and the thumbnail shows awesome artwork but when you download it, the manga art looks totally different than that of the cover?<--------I hate when that happens, its like false advertisement...

I believe the art has to be at least good enough to tell what everything is. Just like everyone else, I believe the story is the most important part in the comic. Now if it is a hentai, then it should have some good art, because I doubt a stick person comic would be any good as that genre.

I agree with everyone, the story is the most important to the comic and nice visuals is just a great bonus. Pretty graphics definitely add to my enjoyment, but how the visual adds or fits in to the story is what matter for me. ^_^

when i first began to actively look up manga to read i relied on the art a lot. Now i've gone back and look at the ones i was interested in because of the plot but rejected because of the art. Now that i'm more used to the medium, they aren't quite as ugly to me as they were. even some of my favorites have art styles i CAN'T STAND!

I have never not finished a manga purely because of the art. I've never started one purely based on the art. i do judge based on looks, better artwork may invite me into an unfamiliar/disliked genre as long as it also has a decent rating.

Art matters A LOT to me.
Surprisingly a lot.
If a manga has a really good plot, but horrible drawings, I won't read it.
If I didn't care about drawings, then I wouldn't read manga.

I'd read fanfiction.

Personnally i think that at as long as the art does not detract from the story its fine, personally i have no real preference for the specific artistic style used to draw the manga...

however whichever style is used should be used 'well' i suppose in that instance art does 'matter' however i dont have a preference as to the style used

I usually don't read OEL because the art is all weird. For some reason OEL artist try to draw Manga style and the characters always come out looking really deformed. Is it just me? Please tell me someone else has noticed this....

I chose "Depends."

Quality of art is important, but not as much as the story. You could have the greatest art in the world with the shittiest story ever (ie. Anything by Oogure Ito--Boy do Air Gear and Tenjho Tenge suck). You could have very mediocre art but have a really great story in it. Read some of the stuff Manga Screener does to know what I mean.

I always sigh when people won't read a very good story just because the art isn't all that good.

To me, good art is just extra when added to a good story.

For me is very important, i'm used to draw so when i stumble into something that is really disgusting i don't spend my time in that, it's kind of nonsense spend my time with an author that i think is more amateur than me.

I'm not saying that the art should be perfect, but at least something reasonable, sometimes i see pictures that i don't do something so ugly neither in a doodle. Of course, the story, the characters are also important, i think in this all as a whole, so the art is part of this whole and if the art is not at least reasonable, this whole is incomplete.

This is only my opinion

I guess I have to agree with everyone; art and story is important. I don't usually head for the shonen genre because of the art though. I don't like it for some reason. I like a few shonen though. I usually like to read manga with simplistic, but beautiful drawing.
