I think that was just a really confusing way of saying what you posted earlier:

The term was originally coined by Grandfather of Gekiga, Tatsumi Yoshihiro, in order to distance his gritty, no-holds-barred work from the mainstream, kid-friendly manga of the late 60's/early 70's, popularized by the great Tezuka Osamu.

So yeah, no new manga can be technically labelled "Gekiga", because it was pretty much a counterculture movement of years long passed.

In other words Gekiga was really serious relative to "western-comic-like" manga at the time but now it's more common even in mainstream manga to have more serious themes.
At least that's what I got from Calibine's statement.

I don't know what it really is...so it's similar to Seinen? I don't like many seinen manga(Yotsubato=exception ;D). So I guess I don't mind it, but not something I would read.
