the problem with ANIME/MANGA adoptation is.... that anime/manga is 100% fantasy based, with almost perfect looking people portrayal, and if they were to do a live-action, it would be for novels or classic manga/anime....
i say DEVIL MAY CRY would turn out terrible...
but METAL GEAR SOLID is actually doable, get a soldier buffed looking actor, and grab a random funny looking bunches, and 1 random japanese guy that wears glasses 😀
people dont like anime/manga adoptions, probly because of the fact that they are usually comparing the movie with the anime/manga, and of course some things are better off left as fantasy...

I think this could turn out really good. I remember watching the live action jpn movie and being really impressed. If they get rid of the terrible comedic relief, this could be an awesome film.
I always like to think that stuff like this will end up more like how the Ring was to Ringu (I think the Ring was better in like every way possible) rather than the US Pulse was to JPN Pulse, which was worse in every way possible.
As far as an actor for Light, they need somebody who is a good actor. If they focus more on his looks than his actual talent, this movie will be a major epic fail.
I also hope that it's based off the live action movie and not the manga/anime. The live film was way more grounded imo and I think that the changes they made were pretty much perfect for capturing the story but being taking advantage of the medium while recognizing its restrictions.

for DRAGON BALL...they should have chose a 12 years old asian looked boy, because in the manga, goku was still 12 years old when that scene happened. and chow yun fat was too cool to be master roshi...where are his bald head and his turtle shell??
RESIDENT EVIL : where are leon and chris? and why was carlos oliveira was so different from the game version? and the main protagonist was too good in combat. what was she? a superhero? c'mon....
DEAD or ALIVE : devon aoki as kasumi ?? c'mon, u gotta be kidding me...there were much more suited japanese girls to fit a role as kasumi. and the story was totally shallow.
...i think DEVIL MAY CRY wouldn't turn out terrible. because in DMC3 and 4, dante's face, voice, motion and stunts were based and taken from Reuben Langdon, an american actor.

I want to comment about Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Dead or Alive and Dragon Ball.
Alot of these things have... weak stories at best. Most of them are horrible. Take Dragonball, like the show is basically a back story that can be told in the opening credits, like super man. After that it's like immediately some threat comes and then it's just constant fighting. If you stayed true to the source material, your movie would turn out kinda crummy. There's not much to pull from.
Street Fighter and Dead or Alive... man, there's no real story in these games. You don't find out that a story even exists until you beat the game. The dialog in Dead or Alive is literally 3 seconds before a fight starts, "You killed my brother. I will have my revenge!!!! Round 1, Fight" You can't stretch that out for 90 minutes. If you did... you'd end up with a movie that was of the same quality as the Dead or Alive and Street Fighter movies.
Resident Evil has probably done it best, and it's one thats strayed the furthest away from it's source material. I'm playing RE5 right now and I'm reading the "History of Resident Evil" stuff... lol none of this stuff makes any sense. It's 100% pure sci-fi channel original quality story telling. In a game that works cuz you're playing it. But as a movie, this stuff would be horrible. It's a miracle that the current films turned out at least decent when the source material is as bad as that.
For most anime that people want to turn into a film, the storylines are so over the top and fantastical... you'd need a budget of like $200 million to make them right. Nobody wants to make stuff like Toradora or Nana into a movie, but that simple zero CGI, grounded in reality stuff is what could be translated into a movie the easiest.
But Death Note isn't like that. It's just a high school kid, in the regular world. There are no mechs, there are no mid air kung-fu fights. The whole thing is just regular people and all of the "action" is pretty much a person talking on a bus, on a train and in a building. The only expensive thing would be doing Ryuk and Rem, but you could cheap up and make them look like "scary people", have no CGI and the story doesn't suffer AT ALL.
That's why i'm excited to see Death Note being redone. Its an anime that could realistically be made without some insane budget. It could actually be made on the cheap. With no special effects and very few sets, the bulk of the money would go to the actors, director and cinematographer. You wouldn't have to cheap up on any of the critical parts of the movie in order to have good sfx, cuz you don't really have any sfx.

Ya know, putting it that way, the movies aren't horrible, i know that and always have, but my inner RE fan wont admit that....which it seems i just did...

the worst from DRAGON BALL EVOLUTION was:
they should have chose a more suitable casts and don't ruin the story.

actually there's a story in steet fighter and dead or alive in the game. every characters have their own path of story. what a shame, in the movie the hollywood ruined it and made their own story . but what pissed me the most are the casts.

probably RE are not that bad. but i don't like how they made their own story for the movie. especially for the third movie. i think, what the? i don't feel the game's atmosphere anymore. and the story became more and more far away from the game. and again, what pissed me off the most are the casts. 🙂

The manga was okay...didnt have the patience to watch the anime through n through while did watch some scenes from the movie- found the acting robotic or lacking ...so am curious how this one will turn out - esp the casting, they will pose a teenage newbie no doubt...
...I actually feel teen actors try too much which is why it will be hard for me to feel that any kid who plays Yagami wouldnt look as if they are too green or not trying too much...see how that Hannibal flashback movie turned out?
