If we can't say "watermarking" in a non-literal sense, then let's say they are putting their brand on a product that isn’t theirs.
The cost for hosting these images on a large site is ridiculously low, and they put their brand on every single image. That's an extreme form of advertising, concealed as a licensing rights notice. Advertising is much more than just an URL, it’s affecting how people perceive scanlation. Those readers think that scanlators work on MangaFox and all kinds of absurd things.

That's what disturbs the scanlators: we don’t own the product either, but most often we are really discreet about getting credited. Most virtuous groups will not add more than a credits page and never, ever, add customized things to the holy manga pages.

Let’s also put it this way: most scanlators are more aware about how they are indebted to the mangakas and to the publishers, and don’t dare using their work to get tons of attribution.
Manga aggregators just trash our respect, that is undeniably what keeps scanlation running without becoming a terrible community. Just imagine scanlators acting as jerky as the popular aggregators are… it wouldn’t be cool, at all.

I didn't want to stretch it, but yes, I am sure manga like Sora no Otoshimono get 100s of thousands of readers. That means that even if there's 10 times as many people who will download a chapter will be an incredibly small minority.

I'm actually a bit thankful that manga aggregators exist, because else we wouldn't be able to take the bandwidth use. Though, probably, that could be turned into profit, and good profit. But also lots of problems.
Lucky I am a scanlator and don't have to think much about money!
