The premise I'm looking for is that someone dies and someone else tries to takes their place, trying to replace or almost become them.

An example would be that one of two sibling dies and the one remaining starts to act and dress up like the deceased one. They might even take on the deceased siblings name. This could be for any reason, it could be admiration of the sibling or due to pressure from their parents.

It doesn't even have to be siblings, it can also be friends, lovers or anything. I'm not picky and anything which have a premise of something similar is appreciated. However the bigger part this have in the story the better.

All genres and any medium are fine.

Global Garden -- The protagonist has spent a long time pretending to be her brother for her mother's sake.

One of the three leads in Bokura no Hentai cross-dresses as his sister.

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate - The main girl, Chisato is in love with the main guy, Yuuki. Though, she also uses him as a replacement for her brother who died.

Edit: I forgot this was based on a VN, so there are many routes. This manga does the route of another girl, not Chisato. If you want the Chisato route, watch the anime.

You could try Pretty Face, but the person the MC is impersonating isn't actually dead, just missing.

In Vered no Rosemary the protagonist pretends to be a princess because of her benefactors orders. When she is ordered to marry into a different royal household, she has to decide between her own love and respecting her benefactors wishes.
For a oneshot it's surprisingly good and satisfactory. 🙂

Migawari Hakushaku no Bouken - The heroine replaces her missing brother, who isn't dead and appears later in the story.

The anime Chevalier D'Eon has the main character dress as his dead sister through magical means. I don't think there is a manga.

There actually is a manga, but it's not completely scanlated and is often criticised for not being as good as the anime. So just go with the anime, I guess? But also keep in mind that the protagonist ends up possessed(?) by the spirit of his sister, so it isn't the typical impersonation storyline.

I've encountered this type of premise several times in manga however most of the times it only involves minor characters and is given very little time to be explored. So it's nice to get some recommendations where it involves one of the main characters
