If you read it as a parody it becomes more tolerable... but it's not a parody... thus the loathing... yet I can't look away. A fleeting hope that Hatori scrapes what's left of her dignity off of Rita's feet and moves on. It's like, every time she makes a resolution to herself or a small stand, he, purposely or not, wafts a fart at her, and BAM! She there is, sniffin' his ass like some depraved mutt - practically humping his leg.

I seriously can't put my loathing of this one into words quite yet; I really tried, too. There's layers of frustration that all tie together when I read it, but I think what keeps me reading is that the focus of these frustrations aren't aimed at the usual targets.

Haha, I feel the same way. I just started reading Heroine Shikkaku today. 4 scanlated volumes of total BS (not the scanlation...it's perfect. I mean the story and characters). The girl is insufferable, even by shoujo standard. On top of being a doormat waiting for Rita to wipe his feet on, she keeps going on about not being a female lead, but a side character in a love story (or something like that)? That was soooooo annoying 🤢
But back to the SO BAD, IT'S GOOD thing, I want to add Hot Gimmick's creator's other work, Teacher's Pet. It's smutty, it's depraved with the teacher and her very young student, but somewhat hot as well. Aishite Kudasai, Sensei is similar in the premise.
I guess anything that is about a hot guy being obsessive and possesive over a girl is hot (wrong in real life, but hot in manga), like 100% Perfect Girl 😁 I wouldn't mind being the object of the bishie's obsession 🤣

Heroine Shikkaku is pretty awesome, that is all.
Besides, I think it gets much better past the first couple of chapters (maybe volumes?). It's obvious the heroine is supposed to be unlikeable and she is for a good amount of chapters. However, her character does seem to show some growth later on. Rita is a jerk, but eh, he learns his lesson in my book.
