A bunch of stuff by Three Days Grace...
Off of Three Days Grace: I Hate Everything About You, Home, and Let You Down especially.
Off of One-X: Pain, Never Too Late, and Riot.

Rough Hands by Alexisonfire.

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.

Shaketramp by Marianas Trench, despite how catchy it is, due to its subject matter.

Nothing Can be Explained by Mike Wyzgowski.

Only by Nine Inch Nails.

Make This Go On Forever by Snow Patrol.

A Wild and Distant Shore and Little Impulse from the soundtrack to The Piano... also The Heart Asks Pleasure First/The Sacrifice, but I can't tell anymore if that's because of how they sound or how they feel when I play them.

The Grace by Neverending White Lights.

Breathe Me by Sia.

How to Save a Life by The Fray.

Skin by Alexz Johnson.

Spies and Sparks by Coldplay.

One Hundred Men by the Dave Orrett Band.

Black History Month by Death From Above 1979.

Smoke Baby by Hawksley Workman.

From the soundtrack of the Kiera Knightley version of Pride and Prejudice: The Living Sculptures of Pemberly, Liz on Top of the World and Darcy's Letter.

stops for fear of making this post any longer

Lots of stuff, really. Though that's only if I'm interpreting what you meant by "heavy" right, aho. I think I am, though... more about the emotional toll and subject matter than the actual sound itself?

This was harder than I expected at first, there's plenty that can lull me into pleasant melancholy, but Jäähyväiset by Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus, which is about a child losing his father in a car accident, makes me choke. Perusing my library I noticed the heaviest, as in depressing the shit out of me, are mostly Finnish songs... including stuff by Finnish bands sung in English or with no lyrics at all. 😐

Yeah, we are one hell of an anemic nation.

Some of the Norwegian death metal sure sounds
dark to me. Those around the 90s.

Jeremy by Pearl Jam. Something about that beginning.

And Westfall by Okkervil River. That song is just wow.

Sorrow by Pink Floyd

I dunno, I just find it heavy...one of my favorite songs by Pink Floyd though.

This is the correct answer.

I'm a proud headbanger, so most of my selections are going to be "heavy" in a musical sense as much as in a content sort of way. However, I readily concede that there is a lot of music much musically heavier. In my geriatric crankyness, I find a lot of what is supposed to be face-meltingly heavy to be actually rather lightweight. It's hard to explain, but a lot of extreme metal has all-balls but no heart.

Iron Maiden: Hallowed be thy Name
By no means their hardest rocking song, or even musically their "heaviest", though it more than adequately holds its own. But whoa... just whoa... the lyrics and music together are simply crushing.

Led Zeppelin: The Immigrant Song
WE ARE YOUR OVERLORDS!!!

Nile: Lashed to the Slave Stick
It's hard to be mellow when you're dealing with the punishment of the gods.

Judas Priest: Saints in Hell
There's more to this one than JP's typical heavy metal melodrama. Rob Halford's bleak wailing in this song is especially vivid as the axe team bridges the gap between the progressive epics of the 70's and the thrash of the 80's.

King Diamond: The Family Ghost
A lot of people think King Diamond sounds like a cat on a chalkboard. But if you can learn to appreciate him, you'll find that he has a lot of good musical thrillers. The Family Ghost from "Abigail" is arguably his best.

As far as "heavy" songs not in the metal or hard rock genres, we have the typical classical music rogue's gallery:

Holst: Mars, the God of War
Wagner: Flight of the Valkyries
Mussorgsky: Night on Bald Mountain
Strauss: Also Sprach Zarathrusta

Movie soundtracks
Star Wars: The Imperial March
Conan the Barbarian: Anvil of Crom

Also, most national anthems are heavy by definition, they just go pouffy with use.

Amon Amarth - Death In Fire ( best while reading vinland saga )

Dimmu Borgir - The Mourning Palace ( always makes me think of DMC )

Dark Tranquillity - Misery's Crown

Metalapocolypse...
