I mean even if I would to get some english edition he doesn't profit from that.

o_o I'm just going to point it out and let you figure out what I'm getting at.

Well, it seems you ought to tell me.

Assuming that the mangaka doesn't make money overseas and completely stupid. Of course they make money. It wouldn't even make sense that they didn't. They may not get a lot but they get a small portion for every book made no matter where in the world.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm no expert but I would imagine they just get paid for license. Of course, it depends on the contract.

I don't think it's cool at all.
Seriously, especially when they get reported on MU as RELEASES when all they did was scan it.
Groups like whyanime and Evil Flowers used to do it...and shoujoshare...
If you don't want to buy it, walk into Barnes&Nobles/Borders and just read it there and leave. .__.

To be honest I don't like it when I see there are no scans because it is licensed xD The thing is I live in a country where they don't sell much manga at all and thus I don't have other way of reading manga except on the internet...
Don't get me wrong, I do buy series which I like when I'm abroad. And come to think of it I'd have never known some of them if it wasn't for illegal scans.

There are always two sides of a coin. Most ppl say "fuuuu, reading scanned manga is sooo bbadddd and absolutly illegal", well wrong. It may be illegal, no need to argue but is it really that bad? I guess it depends on person and purpose.

  1. Like already mentioned some manga are hard to obtain, cuz they are e.g. no longer published.

  2. Some ppl like me started reading and buying manga even before I knew I could get a "free" copy online and must say that scanned mangas are the best reading samples I can get. If I find a manga that could be interessting I can read 1-2 volumes before I decide to buy or drop the manga.

  3. Believe it or not, but scanned mangas can be a damn good advertisment, especially if its from an until now unknown mangaka.

Now a short notice about pircing. If a published pays 2-3 dollars to produce a manga and you have to pay 20-25 dollars to get it delivered to your home, its a bs as well. There are some really nice examples on the internet, where you can buy a digital manga copy with decent pricing. I really hope even more publishers will go the same way. The internet is even a way for mangakas to publish their work on their own. Well now I am starting with futuristic talk.

All in all -> consuming only is bad but like shown above there are different caterogries of using scanned manga.
