USA Bans Large Packages Over Terrorism Fears

Personally, I blame Bush and the people who voted for him back in 2000. Al Queda was sending videos around the time of the 2000 elections that said "If Bush becomes the president, we will attack". No one took it seriously/ignored it and now look at what's happening: People becoming paranoid and too worried over the littlest things that are overseas and like kirabook said, are getting more worried about what's happening outside of the country rather than what's happening inside of the country.

Personally I blame the stupid people in America. I remember when Obama was running for president and people around me all said they were going to vote for him when they knew absolutely NOTHING about his political standing or his agenda. I couldn't care less who people voted for, but at least know about the person you're voting for, not just because of some fucking fad or something. Back then, the cool thing to do was to vote for Obama so everyone votes for him without knowing jack shit.
This is just an example of why America is getting stupider. Ignorant bastards all over the place.

Well, I hope you're not in America, because you're obviously part the problem, Jun Tenkawa.
I think there's more to this story than is being let on.

Thanks. I have no idea how I'm part of the problem, but whatever. Oh and I said that was an example, not the main fucking reason.
Also, doesn't it ring a bell whether I live in America or not when I said "people around me all said they were going to vote for him when they knew absolutely NOTHING about his political standing or his agenda."
Stupid will be stupid I suppose.

It's not packages in general... it's containers like printer cartridges that are 16 ounces or more, which is a lot larger than the standard printer cartridges. Also, it seems to only apply to Yemen.

This Ban you are talking about is coming from Japan's postal service themselves... not the USA.
Besides, you can still get shipments from Japan that are over 16 ounces via Sea Mail, as the only restriction is Air Mail.
Edit: According to the USPS, as long as it's under 70 lbs., it can be shipped to the US.

America. Paranoid as always. You know, they send gundams in thier packages and try to conquer the world with it 😔 They treat other countries really bad, they want Germany to cut down their export to help the american economy; they fight in the near East and now they ban packages.... what´s with them? England has also terrorism but they don´t act like that. They make normal provisons like obersavtion cameras everywhere and removing most of the bins in London to avoid bin bombing.
I'm not sure how observation cameras being everywhere is clearly less paranoid than restrictions on packages. The restrictions on package size are ridiculous, but I'm not a fan of citywide cameras, either - they're generally ineffective at preventing crimes, and at a cost to privacy. Moreover, not having public garbage bins in a city as big as London sounds like quite an inconvenience, much more so than restrictions on shipment size for companies too small to have regular dealings with their national postal service.
Overall, I agree that the British do a much better job of taking things in stride, but they've dealt with regular terrorist attacks (from both the IRA and other groups) for decades, whereas the U.S. has only experienced a few terrorist attacks, and generally larger in scale. A handful of deaths on an annual basis over a couple decades will partially inure the public to such news, while the same number of deaths in a singular incident will lead to dramatic public reaction; such is human nature (unfortunately).

So basically Sankaku Complex is overreacting again. And I believed it again.
Fool me once, fool me twice on my part. 🤣

observation camers sound more logical than the banning of large packages, don´t they?
America was once british and maybe they should just do as back than: copying some british doings in this case the public safety system. The whole "war against terror" leads to nothing good

Not really - banning large packages is an inefficient method of inhibiting the sending of bombs, just as observation cameras are an inefficient method for preventing crime and catching criminals. Moreover, my (implied) question was, how are omnipresent cameras less paranoid? I'd prefer neither the camera system of London nor most of the inefficient security measures America has taken...
Anyways, Toto has already clarified that these measures are coming from Japan Post, not an American policy, therefore the contrast between the two doesn't exist.
