Do you have a role model, somebody you want to be like? If so, please add why he or she is your role model and maybe you could also tell us a little bit about that person? (not necessary)

I created this poll because I think that role models are important. But yet I do not possess somebody I would like to similar to, even though there are persons I admire. Normal persons, everyday persons, and also famous people that had an effect on this world. Please tell me your opinion, I'm very curious! Be it the neighbour next door, the nice granny that always helps you up, or even your pet - who is your role model? And if you don't have one, is there a reason?
Also, do you think that role models are important? Or are they useless nowadays?

Yes I do have a role model. And it's my dad.

I'm from an Asian immigrant family, my family values education and financial security more than anything. My dad may not be a perfect father but he's a very intelligent and highly educated man [His english accent isn't good..but I find it hard to believe he was educated in Oxford! ]

As the only child in the family, I want to follow his footstep and lead a life better than what my parents have. Apparently, my parents have problems with my 'unusual hobbies' of getting into this whole anime/manga stuff. but hey, you're still my role model, dad. 😳

Although I have people I don't want to end up like, I don't have a role model 😮

No particular reason for not having one though.
And to answer the last two questions, I don't think they are necessary, but they're not useless either.

Second option. Maybe I had one when I was a kid (either I don't remember or I never had one), but not anymore.

Warren Buffett he has the midas touch, mostly respect him alot because of his humility donating all of his money to Bill Gate's foundation after he dies, and also getting alot of billionaires to do the same

Not a specific person, but I'm the type who can look at a person and see the admiral qualities that the person possesses. The people around me serve as role models in their own way. I admire my boyfriend and try to be as rational and capable as he is with his work. I admire my mother for her social liveliness. I admire my father for being a hard worker. I admire some of my friends for their strong opinions. I admire others for their ability to be a good friend. I can go on and on.

I just want to be a better person, is all.

No I don't.

I always hated it when they asked this question back in school. I never had an answer. I still don't.

I don't aspire to be like anyone else but myself.

Maybe the very fact that you don't aspire to be like someone comes from a time were you aspired to be like someone that aspired to be like no one else.

Or...

You saw those around you and chose to use their existence as a learning experience to aspire to be something other than that.

None that come to mind

Looking at others never gives me the impression of 'I want to be like him/her!'
More often I think the opposite. E.g. 'Note to self: Never turn out like that person yonder.'

yeah I do, her name is Yukie Nishimura and she's an awesome piano player. I hope I someday can reach her level and am studying hard to achieve that goal. She's also a really nice person when you talk to her (I had once the pleasure of meeting with her after one of her performances).
And the other rolemodel I have might sound corny but it's my mom. I mean she has a job that requires lot of her time, a husband who also has a job which requires a lot of time and traveling from him, and then a daughter who's born mute. yet she managed to always have time for me and for my dad, always was there when I needed her and has always supported me. Also I never have heard her complain about anything

I used to, when I was younger. They were never real people though - they were characters from books or manga. I admired their strength, and their ability to go through whatever life threw at them and emerge victorious, even improved.

I still actually do look up to them, thinking about it. I began working out two years ago because I thought that I would never be able to keep up with Gutts (from Berserk) in real life. Not just for fighting, but I wouldn't even able to walk as far as he does. I learned some Herb lore because I wanted to be able to make curative teas like Ayla (From Clan of the Cave Bear). I tried and tried until I succeeded at meditation because most of the characters in my books did it (See - Any books that have a main character who can use magic). I learned/researched edible plants that grow in a variety of places so I could survive in any situation, like characters from multiple books I read too (See all medieval adventure novels).. I started a garden because of them as well (See above).
Now I do all of these things because I enjoy them - but in the beginning it was just because I wanted to be like those characters, to be able to at least hold my own alongside them. You know, it's interesting. I never thought of this before. I guess role models are important for self-improvement. And self-improvement is never useless, so they still are important today.

I don't have a role model, not humans. I love God & the saints but I don't think they counts.
I don't really care about a single role model. I learned from others and copy their good attributes.

I used to have one, but then I decided I didn't like her anymore.

No, I don't need a role model. I already think I am the best person I can possibly be.
