Unlike reading novels..or watching movies, Manga is more appealing to me. It has graphics, actions, and if you want to save time, you can easily flip through the pages.
It's also a plus that mangas are available online. But if I'm really into a certain manga, I feel obliged to purchase them if they're licensed.
And the most important of all... reading mangas all day is very gratifying....hm. 😎

i like books, but sometimes i haven´t got much time. then a manga is perfect, since it´s fast to read. there are manga you can read when you need something funny, manga you can read when you want something interesting, they cover everything just like tv series. but unlike tv series you can read them everywhere and can stop everywhere.
and before i started reading manga i was also a bookworm: "a book a day keeps the doctor away"

I have never watched much TV. I always read books. Lots and lots of books. And then I became ill and was way too tired to read even one page. Reading regular books became impossible. I was frustrated I couldn't read - and then I was introduced to manga. Lots of pictures and little text. I could actually enjoy stories again. I became addicted.
Why manga and not European or American comics? Those are in colour. When I read black/white comics it tires me less because I won't have to distinguish colours.
Right now I can read real books again. But I still become tired way too quick for real books (I used to read about 600 pages in one day) and I came to like the Japanese culture. Therefore I like manga!

Ever since childhood I've always been a complete 'bookworm.'
Instead of watching TV or movies I was always just reading, reading, reading.
I've also always loved art, and that took up as much time as reading did.
So when I found out about manga, a blend of my two favorite things, how was I supposed to resist?

Well, I already liked reading books and comics before I found out about manga, so when I did find out about it, it was just another excuse for me to read stories with pretty art 🤣
And the fact that it's accessible online helps a lot. I probably wouldn't have read so many if they weren't.
I also like how different they are to comics in terms of the black and white layout and the art style. It's a very distinct style which you don't really see outside of manga.

It started with animes, but as you already know most anime programmes cut off or have a completely different story from the original manga. But for me it was the frustration of animes not finishing what they started. Besides that it was because I liked reading so thats my story 😀

I always liked to read books. I like to read interesting stories, and a lot of manga have stories that I find very interesting, like Death Note. Books just don't have the stories that some manga does. Also, I like that there's a lack of narration. Sometimes when reading books, I see the next page is all narration, and I'm just like, "Nooooo! I want dialouge now!" Manga is basically all dialouge and thoughts, with nice artwork, and does not need long narrations.

I'm a fan of movies. Movies let us go into a fantasy world where everything can happen, but yet, a movie is still limited to what it can and can't do because of budget, actors, and etc. A manga and anime, on the other hand, can achieve the same thing, but the possibilities are limitless. If the author can imagine it, he/she can make it happen. There's no boundaries, and that's why I'm attracted to manga.

For me, I am a big kid at heart. I am 27 years old and I am a huge fan, since I was roughly 16 years old. I started my love for manag from anime aired on American TV. I like it because it has all the innocence you can find is children's stories, but with more adult themes unlike western young adult novels/TV shows. Basically it makes me feel like I am 13 again without the annoying life is perfect or life is all glamor themes that you can get from a lot of younger targeted stories. I have a great fondness for those innocent sweet stories. (yeah... shoujo lover here...) Not to mention, a series of inside jokes you can find for anime and manga lovers a alike. There is this whole subculture surrounding Otaku life and its fun, fascinating and well... completely dorky but in a good way. Kind of like the Trekers, Harry Potter fans, comic fans.
Manga versus anime/light novels. Manga usually is written better in my opinion, at least compared to anime. Light novels are by far the best, but they are rarely translated into English legally. Thus, not a lot of access to them. Plus, you get a lot more filler in anime than in manga. Overall, manga tends to be my most common source of stories from Asian culture. Not to mention, if you read halfway through a manga series and decide you don't like it, it wastes a lot less time them reading halfway through a novel. Not to mention, its a lot easier to get access to manga online than other media. Anime is usually huge files or streaming with limited availability. Light novels are almost non-existent. True, there aren't a lot of legal avenues at this time for viewing manga online, but its bound to happen and would be something I would jump at a chance to be a part of, even more than anime.
Manga verses American comics... well, I never really got into comics much. I liked the stories as portrayed in movies and TV shows, but the comics themselves are rather boring for me. It is difficult to pinpoint the exact reason I like manga and dislike American comics. Although, after watching enough anime during my late teens, I picked up on the mannerisms and body language in anime which made it far more enjoyable than when I first started. So I would imagine, it has something to do with that. Or maybe that Manga is targeted for both sexes, whereas American comics tend to be only targeted for men. Plus, the artwork. I dislike how realistic American comics try to be... or how unrealistic. Its rare to find the use of both styles as well as something in between. Something manga does fairly well.
Manga verses American Story telling... well its as I said above. Manga tends to include adult themes to stories targeted for youth. Its not like the cheesy, everyone is happy or life, leave it to beaver theme as lot of younger audience stories are made for, but its not racing to be mature and completely eliminates that innocent atmosphere that comes with children's stories. Its the right balance... at least most of the time. I enjoy the wide range of genres you can get from manga as well. There are varieties for every type of fan. Young, old, girl, boy, gay, straight, action, romance, drama, comedy, etc. It's easy to find something no matter your mood or personality. Plus, it provides something that isn't always present in American media. So, even if its the same old cliches, it doesn't feel as bad of some of the shows you find on the Disney channel or whatnot.
Overall, my main points are: Manga has greater access verses light novels. More complete, flowing, and ongoing stories verses anime. More adult themes but still feels like a children's or young adult story. Many genre varieties for all types of communities. And finally, a sense of community with other fans.
Hope this helps! 😁
