Well first of all manga presents the reader with an immense diversity, there are plenty of genres for different people, it isn't limited to a certain demographic. It's more minimalistic and artsy than american comics and for me it's just a breath of fresh air. I've been able to find many different subjects and many situations that made me reflect and as a graduate philosophy student i find manga to be a very interesting medium to convey and debate points of view. Obviously that only works if the manga is good. It also helps that the art is amazingly beautiful.

Young Adult Irish Male,

I grew up reading manga because I am right-brained, so I enjoyed visuals, and I preferred Manga to American Comics because the stories were more detailed, longer, etc.
I guess what I mean is manga made me think sometimes, super hero comics never did -.-

and I just kept up with my fav series' and so I keep reading manga today....
although with Classes and Work I def read a lot less than I used to, but I still try to at least keep current with my absolute favourites

Quote from deathbypenguin

Manga is my favorite entertainment medium, because (generally) it's not as text heavy as western graphic novels, has the cinematic quality of movies, and can be read in a single sitting. I like that character drawings are minimalistic and attractive. They aren't caricatures or overly detailed human representations. I like how the panel layouts are varied and exciting. You may find a whole page of black with a single word written in white in the middle, or an action protagonist taking a leap through several frames. I like how meaning can be conveyed with a single expression. I like how ambience can be created without sound. There are many genre varieties found in manga, which is nice for people like me with broad interests, as well as people with narrower interests, since manga offers every genre unlike certain other mediums.

There's a lot to like. I'll leave it at this for now and let others have a go at it.

Basically this, haha.

I find 'normal' books to be rather boring and find it difficult to keep track of the plot because it's just words, words, words. I am a visual learner so illustrations help me understand the story line a lot. That being said, I could easily settle for western comics. But for the most part I find them unappealing (setting Tank Girl aside 😛 ). Most are very detailed and made to look very realistic (which I try to avoid because when I read a comic I like to escape the real world), have a lot of words, and most of which are centered on superheros.

Manga broadens the horizons of comics and feature a greater variety of stories with a unique style in each. Manga is also, might I say, more outgoing than western comics. Like, you wouldn't see a comic like Onani Master Kurosawa in North America would you?

I'm a female and sixteen (1/2) years of age. Been a manga/anime fan since I was in 4th grade when my friend introduced me to Inuyasha.

I always did read books and comics. My teenage sons introduced me to manga. I like the diversity of subject matter. As a professional artist and writer myself, manga also appeals to me because it combines my two favorite things: art and writing.
