I have to say that even though I hate the 360... it's absolutely irrational and has almost no logically based reason. And I actually respect Bill Gates.
He is someone that got to the top with his skills alone. He may have used some "dirty" tricks in the way... but who wouldn't? I know that if I would have been in his shoes I would have probably made the same decisions.
As a user, the choices he made aren't necessarily good for me, but they are certainly what is best for him. And it's only logical to do that.
The only thing that comes close to an explanation, is that I'm more into Japanese style games than the more American type... (RPG vs FPS -- but this is a stupid stereotype...)

unfortunately, i don't possess any 7th generation console << the only console i possess is a ps1 but i prefer my pc 😀 if i were to buy a new console it would be probably wii cause it is cheaper and plain good!! second choice would be xBox 360 which has graphics that kick butt altho a bit expensive << i wanted to buy a ps3 but it was supposed to be better.. i heard that not all ps2 games are compatible with it and it is way more expensive than xbox 360 so why buy it? their graphics are equally beautiful.. if i were to buy a sony console, that would b ps2 or PSP

Right now, out of the next gen consoles it would have to be the Xbox360, mainly because Xbox Live is awesome and blowing s*** up in co-op Crackdown is amazing. But my all time favorite console/handheld would have to be the GameBoy because it came with Tetris when it first came out. I still play that today, except that I play it on my GBA since I do not have the original GameBoy anymore.

SNES by leaps and bounds. Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana....hmm pretty much the golden age of console RPGs and of Squaresoft really.
There was also Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat I & II and all the 2D side-scrollers and the original Civilization even made it to the SNES.
I still play SNES games (emulated now since my poor SNES died horribly) more often than any of the newer games.
in the end the consoles is not so important, but the games are.

About 33% of all 360s break so why do people still buy them? <_< Sure, they're cheap and have a lot of games, but they break if you play them too long. They mostly have FPS and sports games which gets boring after a while since most are the same. I think the main reason for the 360's success is that a year ago, there was no other choice if you wanted good graphics. Now the PS3 is out and will have a lot of games in the coming two years and we also get a free blu ray player =D You guys think the price is bad in the US? 500 dollars is a lot? It's about 800-1000 dollars here in Europe and in Australia. Please, the PS2 cost 500 dollars when it was released here and it's not even close to the goodness of PS3. Yes, I am a sony fanboy but I still like some games for the 360. Also, about the extended warranty on the 360 - I'm guessing it was to avoid getting sued 😛 Cost Microsoft about 1 billion dollars to fix.
I'm torn between SNES and PS3 (FFXIII and Versus XIII which looks awesome). But since I'm also a bit of a graphics whore, I'll say PS3.

in terms of best games, its SNES all the way, any rpg fan knows exactly what Its all about there. For FPS, Xbox takes the cake, if you dont count computers. In terms of the newest gen systems, Wii games are straight group play, too kiddy right now, as for ps3 once the games they promised come out it might be a different story, but until that happens, its basically paying an ass ton for hopes and dreams. Although lair excites me, but like any ps fan, we all get them for the rpgs they produce, and seeing as Square might very well be producing them for the 360, has a big draw away from me buying it. As for 360, if you dont like fps stay away for a couple of more months. Its just now getting into the games it was saying they would do last year. As for the previous poster saying 33% break down, I hope he was referring to the release systems because the improvements have made it a stable system on any console released after July from its first year. Not to mention any person with release console can pick up the airflo's for 25$ and still be under the 600$ ps3 price range.

It started off with the Nintendo. Then the Super Nintendo. Then the Playstation 1 and 2. Now, Playstation 3 is the sh!t hands down. It had a rough start, but at the end of this year, it will have some of the best games, even if some are multi console.
